Analysis of freeze-thaw damage and pore structure deterioration of mortar by low-field NMR

Yaozeng Wang et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the deterioration process of mortar with different water-cement ratios and compared the performances of mortar with and without air voids. The results established a system to predict the residual life of mortar exposed rapid freeze-thaw cycles by determining the relationship between freeze-thaw damage and pore structure deterioration.

Hybrid mixture theory-based modeling of transport of fluids, species, and heat in food biopolymers subjected to freeze-thaw cycles

Ying Zhao et al.

Summary: A hybrid mixture theory-based unsaturated transport model was used to explain the fluid, species, and heat transport, as well as ice formation and thermomechanical changes, occurring inside a food matrix during freezing and freeze-thaw cycles. The model accurately predicted temperature profiles and solute concentration in potatoes, and identified conditions causing less damage to the food. This study is important for improving the quality of frozen foods.

Curing process and pore structure of metakaolin-based geopolymers: Liquid-state 1H NMR investigation

Jing Li et al.

Summary: Geopolymers based on metakaolin with a water-to-solid ratio of 0.59-0.66 were studied during the curing process. Monitoring of the curing process and pore structures was done using NMR relaxometry and cryoporometry, showing changes in relaxation times and pore sizes as the geopolymers matured during curing.
