Effect of alternating temperature on passivation characteristics of carbon steel in chloride-free saturated Ca(OH)2 solution

Tong Wu et al.

Summary: In this study, the passivity of carbon steel in saturated Ca(OH)(2) solution under different alternating temperatures was examined. The results showed that the amplitude of temperature alternation affected the properties and stability of the passive film, and a model was proposed to explain the degradation of the passive film.

Role of red mud in natural passivation and chloride-induced depassivation of reinforcing steels in alkaline concrete pore solutions

Summary: Red mud (RM) has a detrimental effect on the passivation of steels, leading to the formation of defective and thinner passive films. Despite this, RM plays a beneficial role in preventing chloride-induced depassivation and corrosion propagation.
