The Meteorin-like cytokine is upregulated in grass carp after infection with Aeromonas hydrophila

Zhao Jia et al.

Summary: Monoclonal antibodies against grass carp Metrnl-a were prepared and characterized in this study. The expression of CiMetrnl-a increased in grass carp infected with A. hydrophila, particularly in the gills, head kidney and intestine. CiMetrnl-a producing cells were mainly detected in the mucosal layer of the inflamed intestine caused by A. hydrophila infection. qRT-PCR analysis confirmed the marked induction of CiMetrnl-a mRNA expression. These findings suggest the involvement of CiMetrnl-a in regulating bacterial infection-induced intestine inflammation.

Transcriptome profiling and differential expression analysis of altered immune-related genes in goldfish (Carassius auratus) infected with Aeromonas hydrophila

Mateen Nawaz et al.

Summary: Goldfish have been used as a model organism to study the immune system and host-pathogen interactions. A bacterium called Aeromonas hydrophila has been causing mass mortality in fish species. This study observed damages in the head kidney of goldfish infected with A. hydrophila and analyzed the gene expression and enzyme activities related to the immune response. The findings will contribute to a better understanding of the early immune response in goldfish and aid in future research on prevention strategies.

Dietary fishmeal replacement with Hermetia illucens (Black soldier fly, BSF) larvae meal affected production performance, whole body composition, antioxidant status, and health of snakehead (Channa striata) juveniles

G. M. Siddaiah et al.

Summary: Due to market instability and increasing demand and prices of fishmeal, the aquafeed industry is exploring alternative protein feedstuffs such as Hermetia illucens larvae meal (HIM). This study evaluated the effects of replacing fish meal with HIM on the production performance of snakehead juveniles. The results showed that HIM can replace up to 50% of fish meal without harming the production performance and health of the fish.

Genome-wide characterization of the Toll-like receptor gene family in Triplophysa rosa and expression profiles in response to Aeromonas hydrophila infection

Luyun Ni et al.

Summary: This study identified and characterized 16 Toll-like receptor (TLR) genes in the cavefish Triplophysa rosa. Phylogenetic and structural analyses revealed the evolutionary relationships and classifications of these genes. Gene expression analysis showed that TLR genes were ubiquitously expressed in multiple tissues of T. rosa, and played important roles in the immune response against pathogen infection. These findings provide valuable genomic resources for further investigation of the innate immune mechanisms underlying host defense in T. rosa.
