The new CHEERS 2022 statement replaces previous guidance and reflects the need for guidance that can be applied to all types of health economic evaluation and includes stakeholder involvement.

Adherence to country-specific guidelines among economic evaluations undertaken in three high-income and middle-income countries: a systematic review

Summary: The study evaluated the adherence of economic evaluations to country-specific guidelines in Canada, South Africa, and Egypt. Adherence was found to be highest in Canada, followed by South Africa and Egypt. Studies using cost-utility analysis design, local/national funding, undertaken by a health economist, and pharmacoeconomic evaluations showed significantly higher adherence.

Summary: This study reviewed 31 national healthcare economic evaluation (HEE) guidelines and found a certain level of consistency in economic evaluation methods, but significant differences in detailed recommendations. These variations may be due to differences in healthcare systems and financing mechanisms, as well as differences in the capacity of local researchers and data availability.
