Microwave-assisted synthesis of copper oxide particles and its application for determination of imazapyr in environmental samples

Angela Y. Aguilera et al.

Summary: Researchers proposed the use of copper oxide particles (Cu2O PS) as a chemical sensor for the determination of IMA residues. The conversion rate of Cu2O PS was analyzed by the response surface methodology, and the particles were thoroughly characterized for further application. Determination of IMA was based on the localized surface plasmon resonance band of Cu2O PS at 473 nm. The method showed good applicability in soil and water samples, with satisfactory recoveries and a detection limit of 101 mu g L-1 (R-2 >0.98).

Modifying superparamagnetic iron oxide and silica nanoparticles surfaces for efficient (MA)LDI-MS analyses of peptides and proteins

Shokoofeh Maghari et al.

Summary: The present study evaluated the influence of surface properties of nanoparticles (NPs) on the intensity of mass signals in matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI-MS) and laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (LDI-MS) experiments. The results indicated that the surface ligands of NPs significantly enhanced the signal intensity based on electrostatic interaction and laser energy absorption in LDI-MS analyses. In MALDI-MS experiments, achieving colloidal stability of NPs in the matrix solution led to a significant signal improvement.

Applications of MALDI-MS/MS-Based Proteomics in Biomedical Research

Laura Darie-Ion et al.

Summary: Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) mass spectrometry is widely used in proteomics for the structural identification and characterization of proteins and peptides, including their modified forms. MALDI-MS and MALDI-MS/MS offer sensitive analysis of small and large molecules, enabling direct analysis of biological samples with minimal preparation. MALDI-MS/MS has greatly aided in understanding the molecular function and involvement in disease pathogenesis of peptides and proteins. This review highlights the applications of MALDI-MS and MALDI-MS/MS for analyzing biomedical relevant proteins and peptides, including the use of MALDI-MSI for spatial analysis of molecular weight proteins in tissues.

Chemically heterogeneous carbon dots enhanced cholesterol detection by MALDI TOF mass spectrometry

Dominika Houdova et al.

Summary: A binary system composed of carbon dots and N-doped CDs was used for cholesterol analysis, showing sensitivity to cholesterol and enhancing detection. In the presence of inorganic cations, the COOH and NH2 groups on CDs surface contributed to cholesterol detection, while N-CDs led to better reproducibility in the presence of NaCl. The enhancing effect of carbon dots was attributed to specific interactions between molecules and supported by theoretical calculations.
