Summary: As a type of room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) material, carbon dots (CDs) have short lifetime and low phosphorescence efficiency. Various strategies have been developed to improve these disadvantages, including embedding in rigid matrix, introducing heteroatom, and crosslink-enhanced emission. Doping CDs into different matrices is the main method for preparing long-lived CDs-based RTP materials. However, matrix-free CDs and carbonized polymer dots-based RTP materials have also been widely explored. The recent progress, efficient strategies, and emission mechanisms of CDs-based RTP materials are summarized and reviewed in detail. These materials show great application potential in anti-counterfeiting, data encryption, and biological monitoring due to their excellent chemical stability, photostability, and low biological toxicity.

Summary: In this work, a plasmonic sensing approach using core-shell Au@Ag nanostars is developed for the determination of antioxidants based on their anti-etching capacity. The nanostars can be etched by chloroauric acid, but antioxidants can prevent the etching. By modulating the shell thickness and nanostructure morphology, the nanostars with the thinnest shell show the best etching sensitivity. The anti-etching effect of antioxidants induces changes in SPR spectrum and solution color, facilitating both quantitative detection and naked-eye readout.

Summary: There is a high demand for affordable and user-friendly fluorescence-based materials for commercial anti-counterfeiting applications. A new fluorescent pigment, NHPY, with yellow fluorescence under UV light was synthesized. NHPY was used as the pigment for an eco-friendly flexographic ink, which was coated on UV dull paper and printed on security papers and boards. The printed samples demonstrated yellow fluorescence when exposed to UV light, and their light fastness, gloss, colorimetric results, and abrasion resistance confirmed NHPY as a suitable fluorescent pigment for security printing applications.

Summary: Fluorescent anti-counterfeiting technology is widely used due to its simplicity, low cost, and high safety. However, the development of multi-mode and polychromatic fluorescent materials for advanced anti-counterfeiting still faces technical challenges. In this study, dual-mode polychromatic Cs2AgIn0.99Bi0.01Cl6 double perovskite nanocrystals (DPNCs) doped with Yb3+/Er3+ were developed. The DPNCs emitted bright yellow light under 365 nm UV light and green fluorescence under 980 nm laser excitation. Based on the dual-mode and polychromatic fluorescence characteristics, a high-level anti-counterfeiting method was designed using this material. The brightness of the anti-counterfeiting pattern based on this material showed minimal decrease after three months, indicating its potential application in information encryption and identity recognition.

Ce3+ introduction further enhanced the stability and fluorescence intensity of the nanoclusters. The study also discovered the aggregation-induced emission (AIE) property of CuAuNCs@GSH and the role of Ce3+ in reducing non-radiative decay of excited states. Interaction between ATP and Ce3+ dissociated the nanocluster assembly and recovered weak luminescence.

A new conjugated polymer, PPETE-SP, was synthesized and characterized. The PPETE-SP/PMMA fibrous membrane exhibited reversible fluorescence color change under UV and visible light. The FRET efficiency was found to be approximately 61% based on confocal laser scanning microscopy. Different anti-counterfeiting modes were proposed, showing promising applications in practical anti-counterfeiting.

Summary: The periosteum is crucial for bone formation and reconstruction. Silk fibroin (SF) and silk sericin (SS) are promising biomaterials in bone tissue engineering due to their biocompatibility and physicochemical properties, but their lack of mechanical properties limits their application. In this study, SF/SS composite films with improved mechanical properties were developed using a boiling water degumming technique. The composite films exhibited enhanced breaking strength and toughness compared to SF films, and promoted faster hydroxyapatite (HAp) deposition. These findings suggest that SF/SS composite films have potential as biomaterials for the repair and regeneration of periosteum.
