Gang Li et al.

Summary: Due to increasing awareness of environmental pollution protection, the electric vehicle has attracted special attention. However, there is still limited research on the refrigerant charge amount and valve opening for the CO2 automotive heat pump system. This study provides a systematic investigation of these factors and their impact on system/component performance and oil circulation performance, aiming to enhance the thermal management of electric vehicle systems.

On-site fault experiment and diagnosis research of the carbon dioxide transcritical heat pump system for energy saving

Yabin Guo et al.

Summary: Carbon dioxide transcritical heat pump air conditioning performs excellently in heating conditions, serving as a promising heating alternative to enhance building energy saving level. However, there lacks experimental research on faults in the carbon dioxide transcritical heat pump system as current studies focus on heat pump systems with Freon refrigerant. This research conducted operation experiments on carbon dioxide heat pumps with eight fault types under winter conditions and analyzed their operation characteristics. Based on fault characteristics, a causality table is proposed for quick identification of fault types with at least six characteristic variables. It is concluded that faults will directly or indirectly increase energy consumption, decrease system heating capacity, and reduce indoor thermal comfort. The research results contribute to early fault identification in carbon dioxide systems and improvement of building energy efficiency.

Thermodynamic analysis and LCCP evaluation of kangaroo heat pump cycle for electric vehicles

Zhenyuan Mei et al.

Summary: The study proposes an enhanced heat pump cycle, the kangaroo heat pump cycle (KC), to improve the heating capacity of heat pumps in electric vehicles at low ambient temperatures. Compared to the flash tank-based vapor injection heat pump cycle (FT-VIC), the KC increases the heating capacity by 25.7% and 20.1% at -5 degrees C and -15 degrees C, respectively.

Coupled effect of operation conditions and refrigerant charge on the performance of a transcritical CO2 automotive air conditioning system

Xiang Yin et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of refrigerant charge on the performance of a transcritical CO2 automotive air conditioning system, proposing a novel standard for judging the appropriate normalized charge. Pressure-enthalpy diagrams under different charge levels were shown, and the influence of ambient temperature and compressor frequency on charge characteristics was analyzed. Optimal parameters for judging charge characteristics were identified as discharge temperature, suction temperature, and temperature before the electronic expansion valve.
