Conservation and restoration of riverine spawning habitats require fine-scale functional connectivity and functional heterogeneity

Qing Deng et al.

Summary: Extensive hydropower development and climate change have led to a severe extinction crisis for migratory fish, causing widespread environmental concern. This study developed a function-based framework to model fine-scale functional connectivity and evaluate habitat quality for the population recovery of migratory fish. Compared to previous research, our methodology effectively improved the predictive performance of spatiotemporal distributions and quality assessments of spawning habitats.

Summary: Climate change and anthropogenic activities have significant impacts on river hydrological health. This study examines the long and short-term variations of hydrological health in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River and its potential impacts on aquatic habitats. It finds that climate change is the dominant factor causing the decline in river hydrological health at an annual scale.

Deep insight into daily runoff forecasting based on a CNN-LSTM model

Huiqi Deng et al.

Summary: This study introduces a daily runoff forecasting model based on CNN-LSTM and explores the impact of various input parameters on the model's prediction performance. Results show that the CNN-LSTM model outperforms the LSTM model in runoff forecasting. Sensitivity analyses indicate that the settings of input parameters greatly influence prediction performance, with runoff and rainfall data inputs yielding the best performance.

Study on the proportion and flow path of Yangtze River water diversion into Taihu Lake

Zhibing Hu et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates a significant upward trend in the proportion of water diversion from the Yangtze River to Taihu Lake in the past 30 years. The Taige River is the most affected by the river diversion, while the Wuxi River is the least affected. The primary flow path of water diversion from the Yangtze River to Taihu Lake is through the Wuyi River and Lake Gehu via the Zao River water diversion station.

Luhua Wu et al.

Summary: Using MRA, CWT, XWT, and WTC methods, this study investigated the relationship between climate change and hydrological processes in a typical karst watershed. The main findings are that rainfall is the primary factor affecting runoff changes, with a positive and negative interlacing effect, while temperature and evaporation have a mainly negative impact on runoff change.
