Fault Diagnosis Techniques for Nuclear Power Plants: A Review from the Artificial Intelligence Perspective

Ben Qi et al.

Summary: This paper provides a review of AI-based system-level fault diagnosis methods for complex and safety-critical systems like nuclear power plants. The methods are classified into knowledge-driven and data-driven approaches, with a systematic description of their principles, applications, and comparative analysis. The advantages and disadvantages of both approaches are compared, highlighting the tendency to combine them. Possible future research directions and suggestions are also provided.

Influence of operation of thermal and fast reactors of the Beloyarsk NPP on the radioecological situation in the cooling pond: Part II, Macrophytes and fish

Aleksei Panov et al.

Summary: The influence of waste technological waters from thermal and fast reactors at Beloyarsk NPP in Russia on the accumulation of 60Co, 90Sr, and 137Cs in plants and fish in the cooling pond was investigated. The critical radionuclides, pathways of entry into the ecosystem, and periods of maximum discharge were determined. The study demonstrated that the use of fast reactors at Beloyarsk NPP has a smaller impact on the release of artificial radionuclides into the environment. Monitoring studies from 1976 to 2019 showed a significant decrease in the specific activity of NPP-derived radionuclides in plants and fish.

Distribution laws for radioisotopes in receiving freshwater of Inland Nuclear Power Plant

Jiaxin Wang et al.

Summary: This study proposed a framework for the transportation of radioactive isotopes from Inland Nuclear Power Plant to receiving freshwater, and analyzed the relationship between radioactive concentration, accident consequences, and meteorological factors. The results showed that Cs-137 is a good representative for total radioisotope concentration at different downstream distances, and there are different influencing factors for different precipitation situations.

Simulation of Dispersion Modeling of 137Cs for the Possible Leakage of Malaysia?s Nuclear Power Plant Operation

Muslim et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the distribution model and impact of 137Cs radionuclide released by a nuclear power plant in the event of a leak in Peninsular Malaysia on Indonesian waters. The results showed that the highest concentration of 137Cs would be found around the nuclear power plant and would gradually decrease through diffusion and advection processes. On the 15th day, 137Cs would spread to Indonesian waters up to a distance of 76 km from the source, and on the 30th day, it would expand up to 130 km. The movement of 137Cs follows the dominant current pattern.

Assessment of total annual effective doses to representative person, for authorised and accidental releases from the Nuclear Medicine Department at Cattinara Hospital (Trieste, Italy)

Michele Signoriello et al.

Summary: This article investigates the impact of radioactive waste produced by a Nuclear Medicine Department on the environment and evaluates the potential risks of waste release pathways and accidental fire events. The research findings suggest that the waste release is in compliance with regulatory stipulations and the annual total effective dose to individuals is within acceptable limits.

Excess lifetime cancer risk and committed effective dose associated with dietary exposure to radioactivity of natural origin from mining areas

Ekpor Anyimah-Ackah et al.

Summary: The study aimed to determine natural radioactivity levels in total diets in an area with excessive mining activities. Results showed most radionuclides had activity concentrations below global reference values. K-40 in diets was the highest contributor to the committed effective dose, and excess cancer risks were within the protective range.
