Summary: This study explores the impact of Production Credit Associations (PCAs), a branch of the early Farm Credit System, on agricultural yield and input use after the farm credit crisis of the 1920s in the United States. The findings show that counties within 30 km of a PCA experienced 7% to 14% higher crop revenue per acre and 9% higher corn yields compared to counties located more than 60 km away from a PCA. Additionally, there was a small but statistically significant increase in tractor usage (1% to 2%) in these areas. These results provide crucial evidence of the effectiveness of government-sponsored enterprises in addressing market frictions in the early US agricultural economy.

The empirical results show that fiscal support for agriculture has a stronger positive correlation with farmers' income growth compared to agricultural credit. The policy implications include implementing regionally differentiated agricultural credit development strategies, enhancing fiscal support for agriculture, and optimizing the structure of fiscal support.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the relationship between climate change and sustainable agricultural growth in nine Sahel countries from 1990 to 2020. The results show that climate change caused by rainfall variation is a significant factor in reducing sustainable agricultural growth in the region. There is a one-way feedback relationship from sustainable agricultural growth to greenhouse gas emissions. The study recommends policymakers in the Sahel region and Africa as a whole to implement a policy mix that focuses on mitigating the adverse effects of rainfall variation on agricultural sustainability, particularly through irrigation, and to proactively build the resilience and adaptation of the region to future agriculturally induced climatic changes.

Summary: This study investigates the factors affecting smallholder farmers' decisions to adopt sustainable agricultural practices (SAPs) and the impacts of the adoption on farm income and food security. Results show that decisions are influenced by household demographics, plot-level characteristics, extension services and locations. Adopting multiple SAPs has larger positive impacts on farm income and food security than adopting single or two SAPs. Therefore, policies should focus on improving extension services and strengthening farmer-based organizations to promote the adoption of multiple SAPs.
