Expression of TaNCL2-A ameliorates cadmium toxicity by increasing calcium and enzymatic antioxidants activities in arabidopsis

Shivi Tyagi et al.

Summary: Cadmium is a toxic heavy metal naturally occurring in the environment. Exogenous application of calcium has been found to reduce the toxicity of cadmium in crop plants. The TaNCL2-A gene has been shown to play a role in the response to cadmium stress and its overexpression leads to increased cadmium tolerance and calcium accumulation in transgenic Arabidopsis lines. In addition, these transgenic lines also exhibit improved growth, yield parameters, and physiological indicators compared to control plants, and show tolerance to salinity and osmotic stress.

ERF subfamily transcription factors and their function in plant responses to abiotic stresses

Ying Wu et al.

Summary: This review focuses on the Ethylene Responsive Factor (ERF) subfamily, which is the largest group of proteins in the plant AP2/ERF superfamily. The ERFs have been extensively studied for their role in regulating plant resistances to various abiotic stresses. The review summarizes the molecular mechanisms of ERF regulation and their impact on stress responsive gene transcription. However, there is limited comprehensive annotation of the interacting proteins and target genes of ERFs. Future research prospects include investigating the mechanisms of stress signal transmission to ERFs and the transcriptional regulation of stress responsive genes by ERFs.

Co-evolved plant and blast fungus ascorbate oxidases orchestrate the redox state of host apoplast to modulate rice immunity

Jiexiong Hu et al.

Summary: This study reveals the role of apoplastic ascorbate oxidases (AOs) in the modulation of apoplast redox state during rice blast infection by the fungus Magnaporthe oryzae. The MoAo1 effector inhibits the activity of OsAO3 and OsAO4, which are also involved in the regulation of apoplast redox state and plant immunity. The polymorphic variations of these enzymes orchestrate pathogen virulence and rice immunity.

Characteristic of the Ascorbate Oxidase Gene Family in Beta vulgaris and Analysis of the Role of AAO in Response to Salinity and Drought in Beet

Monika Skorupa et al.

Summary: Ascorbate oxidase (AAO) plays a key role in regulating redox state, cell wall metabolism, cell expansion, and abiotic stress response in plants by oxidizing ascorbic acid to dehydroascorbic acid. Little is known about AAO genes in beets under abiotic stress. This study analyzed AAO genes in sugar beet and its halophytic ancestor under salt or drought treatments, revealing downregulation of AAO gene expression and enzyme activity which may contribute to beet's high tolerance to salinity and drought.
