Enhanced hydrogen desorption via charge transfer in Pt Nanoclusters/ReS2 hybrid electrocatalyst for efficient hydrogen evolution reaction

Geonwoo Kim et al.

Summary: In recent years, there has been an increasing demand for hybrid catalysts with heterojunctions between two catalytic materials. Pt and transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) have been the focus for improving electrocatalysts. However, finding a TMDC support for long-term stability of Pt/TMDC hybrid catalysts with high activity remains a challenge. In this study, a hybrid electrocatalyst consisting of ReS2 nanoflowers and Pt nanoclusters (NCs) was presented for efficient hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The hybrid catalyst exhibited enhanced hydrogen desorption through charge transfer from Pt to ReS2, demonstrating good HER activity, excellent durability, and a low overpotential (20 mV at 10 mA cm-2) compared to conventional Pt/C catalysts.

Dual-coupling-guided epitaxial growth of wafer-scale single-crystal WS2 monolayer on vicinal a-plane sapphire

Jinhuan Wang et al.

Summary: Epitaxial growth of two-inch single-crystal WS2 monolayer films on vicinal a-plane sapphire surfaces has been achieved, driven by a dual-coupling-guided mechanism resulting in unidirectional alignment of WS2 islands. The high quality of WS2 monolayers is evidenced by a photoluminescent circular helicity of about 55%, comparable to exfoliated WS2 flakes. The findings offer the opportunity to boost the production of wafer-scale single crystals of various two-dimensional materials on insulators for applications in integrated devices.

Application of a microwave synthesized ultra-smooth a-C thin film for the reduction of dielectric/semiconductor interface trap states of anoxide thin film transistor

Nila Pal et al.

Summary: In this study, a solution-processed ultra-smooth amorphous-carbon (a-C) film was used as a surface modification layer in high-kappa dielectric-based thin-film transistors (TFTs). The a-C film reduced the surface roughness of the gate dielectric, formed a strong coordination bond with the tin (Sn) of the semiconducting channel, and successfully improved the device performance by reducing gate leakage current, carrier scattering, and trap state density.
