Keyhole TIG welding of newly developed nickel-based superalloy VDM Alloy 780

Achmad Ariaseta et al.

Summary: The influence of keyhole TIG (K-TIG) welding parameters on the weld geometry and defects of VDM Alloy 780 was investigated. Statistical design of experiment was used to characterize the microstructures of the heat-affected zone (HAZ) and fusion zone (FZ). The study found that travel speed significantly influenced the minimum weld width and various weld metal properties, while welding current and interaction current*travel speed had significant effects on specific weld metal aspects. SEM-EDS analysis identified interdendritic microconstituents in the FZ, and plate-like precipitates were observed in the partially melted zone (PMZ) within the HAZ.

Deep learning based real-time and in-situ monitoring of weld penetration: Where we are and what are needed revolutionary solutions?

Rui Yu et al.

Summary: The design of the welding procedure ensures the desired weld penetration under normal conditions. However, deviations from the normal conditions result in deviations in penetration and other welding outcomes. To prevent inadequate penetration, a well-designed procedure should reserve an appropriate margin for estimated deviations. Real-time monitoring of penetration is challenging because it is not directly observable during manufacturing.

Weld pool and keyhole geometric feature extraction in K-TIG welding with a gradual gap based on an improved HDR algorithm

Zishun Wang et al.

Summary: The change of gap width is crucial in K-TIG welding, and maintaining consistent gap width is challenging. An HDR system was designed for weld pool monitoring, and the behavior of weld pool under different gap changes was analyzed, recommending avoidance of welding from a large gap to a narrow one.

Spectroscopic analysis of the arc plasma during activating flux tungsten inert gas welding process

Chunkai Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the spatial distribution of A-TIG welding arc spectra under the influence of three types of active agents. The distribution characteristics of active agent particles, argon, and iron particles in the arc were analyzed, and the arc electron temperature was calculated. Experimental results show that the distribution state of different active particles in the arc is different, and the influence of different active agents on the arc electron temperature varies.

Metal transfer behavior during CMT-based Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing of Ti-6Al-4V alloy

Siyu Zhou et al.

Summary: CMT-Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (CMT-WAAM) is a manufacturing method with low heat input and high production efficiency, but the surface geometric accuracy of the fabricated sample, especially for titanium alloy deposition, is inferior. This study analyzed the metal transfer behavior of titanium alloys during CMTWAAM using a high-speed camera to optimize the process parameters. The results showed that a hybrid metal transfer mode occurred in the CMT + P mode, and the impact of I-p1 on droplet diameter was more significant. Additionally, noticeable oxide skin was observed on the surface of the flowing molten pool in the CMT mode. Compared with the CMT mode, new spatter types were generated in the CMT + P mode.

Effect of activated flux tungsten inert gas (A-TIG) welding on the mechanical properties and the metallurgical and corrosion assessment of Inconel 625

J. Sivakumar et al.

Summary: The use of activated flux and filler wires can reduce the formation of deleterious chromium compounds and stabilize the welding process. In terms of corrosion performance, Inconel 625 fusion zones in both A-TIG and TIG welding processes exhibit outstanding corrosion resistance.

Numerical analysis of the effect of heat loss by zinc evaporation on aluminum alloy to hot-dip galvanized steel joints by electrode negative polarity ratio varied AC pulse gas metal arc welding

Seong Min Hong et al.

Summary: The study investigated the joining of aluminum alloy to hot-dip galvanized steel using AC pulse GMAW, and the impact of EN ratio and Zn evaporation on joint quality. Results showed that zinc evaporation and increased EN ratio decrease heat input to the joint interface.
