The Origin of Broad Emission in ⟨100⟩ Two-Dimensional Perovskites: Extrinsic vs Intrinsic Processes

Summary: This study investigates the origin of broad emission bands in phenylethylammonium-based 2D perovskite materials through experimental and computational methods. The results indicate that emission from halide vacancies is consistent with the experimentally observed features. Emission from self-trapped excitons (STEs) may only contribute to the broad emission bands in wide-band gap compounds.

Intermolecular Hydrogen-Bonding Correlated Structure Distortion and Broadband White-Light Emission in 5-Ammonium Valeric Acid Templated Lead Chloride Perovskites

Summary: In this study, a green organic spacer, 5-ammonium valeric acid (Ava), was used to template novel 2D lead chloride hybrids, leading to ultrabroadband emission and enhanced photoluminescence quantum yield. The intermolecular hydrogen bonding in Ava(2)PbCl(4) was found to enable larger structural deformation, and the broadband emissions were determined to be transient self-trapped excitons luminescence. These findings highlight the role of intermolecular hydrogen bonding in modulating the photophysical properties of 2D perovskites.

Structural chemistry of layered lead halide perovskites containing single octahedral layers
