Lung function and cardiovascular disease: a two-sample Mendelian randomisation study

Summary: Genetic epidemiological methods were used to investigate the causal association between impaired lung function and cardiovascular disease risk. The study found strong evidence that reduced forced vital capacity (FVC) is independently associated with an increased risk of coronary artery disease. However, forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1) did not show a significant causative effect on coronary artery disease risk.
