Selenium-mediated Cr(VI) reduction and SeNPs synthesis accelerated Bacillus cereus SES to remediate Cr contamination

Min Nie et al.

Summary: This study found that Bacillus cereus SES, with the capability of reducing both Cr(VI) and Se(IV), demonstrated a faster reduction of Cr(VI) in the presence of Se(IV). Proteomics analysis revealed the mechanisms underlying the enhanced resistance and reduction of Cr(VI) by B. cereus SES in the presence of Se(IV). Moreover, the combination of Se and B. cereus SES showed potential for reducing the toxicity of Cr(VI) by affecting the bioavailability of both Cr and Se in soil.

A Comprehensive Review on Catalytic Activities of Green-Synthesized Selenium Nanoparticles on Dye Removal for Wastewater Treatment

Amin Barani et al.

Summary: The increase in economic activities and industrialization has led to the growth of pollution caused by waste and sewage. The textile industry, in particular, produces large amounts of liquid contaminants due to the use of water in fabric production. The limitations of physico-chemical methods for dye degradation have sparked interest in green nanoparticles (NPs) and the use of photocatalytic decomposition. Selenium (Se), a semiconductor metal, has been widely used for removing organic dyes due to its excellent physical characteristics. Green SeNPs have attracted attention for catalytic decomposition. This review provides comprehensive studies on the degradation of various organic dyes using green SeNPs, highlighting the importance of green chemistry and catalytic properties.

Modulation of photocatalytic properties through counter-ion substitution: tuning the bandgaps of aromatic sulfonium octamolybdates for efficient photo-degradation of rhodamine B

Mahender Singh et al.

Summary: This study explored the modulation of photocatalytic properties of polyoxometalate-organic hybrids through counterion substitution. The researchers used a series of aromatic sulfonium counterions (ASCs) with different functional substituents to fine-tune the optical bandgaps and adsorption properties of octamolybdate hybrids for photocatalytic dye degradation. They found that the hybrid catalyst with a -CHO substituent exhibited the lowest bandgap and highest degradation rate constant. The study proposed a possible mechanism for photocatalytic dye degradation and identified the intermediates formed during the process.

Summary: This study successfully prepared five new highly photochromic hybrid organic-inorganic materials through supramolecular assembly, with specific structural features revealed through X-ray diffraction studies. The photochromic properties of these materials at room temperature are highly tunable, partly due to the influence of steric and electronic factors. Particularly, mixed DTEs show faster fading processes.
