Low-temperature detection of acetone gas using ZnO-TiO2 nanorod on tapered multimode fiber decorated with Au-Pd thin films

Farah Sakiinah Roslan et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the influence of titanium dioxide on zinc oxide nanorods coated on a fiber for gas detection. The addition of Au-Pd thin film improves the sensitivity of the sensor. The results show that the sensor with TiO2 nanorods decorated with Au-Pd thin films demonstrates notable sensitivity and stability for detecting acetone gas at low temperatures.

A Review of Optical Fibre Ethanol Sensors: Current State and Future Prospects

Sanober Farheen Memon et al.

Summary: This review introduces a range of optical fibre-based sensors for measuring ethanol, primarily in aqueous solution. The sensors are classified into four groups based on measurement techniques: absorption, external interferometric, internal fibre grating, and plasmonic sensing. Comparison of these sensors is done based on their characteristic performance indicators, including sensitivity, resolution, and measurement range. The potential application areas of these sensors in ethanol production are discussed, with particular emphasis on their utilization in the industrial and medical sectors driven by the emerging internet of things (IoT). The review concludes with a summary of the current status and future prospects of optical fibre ethanol sensors for industrial use.

Single-walled carbon nanotubes coated D-shaped fiber for aqueous ethanol detection

Huda Adnan Zain et al.

Summary: In this study, a SWCNT coated D-shaped silica fiber was used as an ethanol sensor, and its performance was analyzed by monitoring variations in output power and wavelength with changing ethanol concentration. The results showed that the SWCNT coated structure exhibited improved sensitivity in the concentration range of 5%-50% ethanol.

Volatile Organic Compound Vapour Measurements Using a Localised Surface Plasmon Resonance Optical Fibre Sensor Decorated with a Metal-Organic Framework

Chenyang He et al.

Summary: A tip-based fiber optic localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) sensor is developed for detecting volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by coating the tip with gold nanoparticles and further functionalizing with HKUST-1 metal-organic framework. The sensitivity and response time of the sensor are influenced by the thickness of the MOF film and different cycles of coating. The sensor with 120 coating cycles shows higher sensitivity and reversible response to VOCs, with a limit of detection (LoD) of 0.005%-0.011% for acetone, ethanol, and methanol measurements.
