Microwave-assisted rapid synthesis of nanosized SSZ-13 zeolites for effective conversion of ethylene to propylene

Nazmul Abedin Khan et al.

Summary: A highly effective method of synthesizing SSZ-13 with microwave heating was reported in this work. The microwave-assisted synthesis resulted in smaller particles and accelerated both nucleation and crystal growth rates. The obtained SSZ-13 exhibited higher efficiency and propylene selectivity in acid catalysis and ethylene-to-propylene reactions, with a maximum propylene yield of 62%.

Tailored Synthesis of ZSM-5 Nanosheets with Controllable b-Axis Thickness and Aspect Ratio: Strategy and Growth Mechanism

Jiaxing Zhang et al.

Summary: The tailored synthesis of ultrathin ZSM-5 nanosheets with controllable b-axis thickness and aspect ratio was achieved by adjusting the amount and aging time of silicalite-1 seed suspension in the fluoride medium. The seed suspension and fluoride played important roles in the growth process of nanosheets. Thinner nanosheets showed better catalytic performance.

In situ imaging of the sorption-induced subcell topological flexibility of a rigid zeolite framework

Hao Xiong et al.

Summary: The crystallographic pore sizes of zeolites are smaller than previously inferred, due to the flexible variation in zeolite opening pores. In the study, it was found that the topologically soft silicon-oxygen-silicon hinges cause deformation of the zeolite channels, but this deformation does not affect the stability and rigidity of the overall unit cell.

A review on the synthesis, structural modification and application of two-dimensional MFI zeolite

Guoqiang Tang et al.

Summary: Compared with three-dimensional bulk MFI zeolites, two-dimensional MFI zeolites have larger surface areas, shorter diffusion distances, and more flexible structures, giving them greater advantages in catalysis. Bi-functional templates with hydrophilic and hydrophobic groups play a crucial role in the synthesis of two-dimensional MFI zeolites. Templates with different groups and chain lengths significantly influence the morphologies and catalytic performances of the synthesized zeolites. This study presents a review of the synthesis methods, structural modification, and cost reduction of layered MFI zeolites based on recent research. The advantages and disadvantages of different synthesis methods are discussed, along with future opportunities and challenges.

Platelike MFI Crystals with Controlled Crystal Faces Aspect Ratio

Weijiong Dai et al.

Summary: A simple synthetic strategy was developed to reduce the thickness of zeolite crystals along the b-axis, providing a short diffusion path along the straight channel. The synthesized MFI crystals, with micrometer-size along the a- and c-axis and thickness in the tens of nanometers along the b-axis, showed good catalytic activity in the methanol-to-hydrocarbons reaction. The synthesis of platelike MFI crystals was successfully scaled up to a kilogram scale, demonstrating extended catalytic lifetime compared to commercial nanosized samples.

From nano aggregates to nano plates: The roles of gelatin in the crystallization of titanium silicate-1

Ying Ji et al.

Summary: A simple strategy was provided to tune the morphology of titanium silicalite-1 (TS-1) from nano aggregates to b-axis-oriented plate by varying the amount of gelatin, a sustainable and cheap commercial regulator. Gelatin not only plays a significant role in the formation of plate-like morphology, but also affects the coordination states of Ti cations. The synergetic effect of amino and carboxyl groups is the primary aspect for influencing the morphology of TS-1.

Two-Dimensional MFI Zeolite Nanosheets Exfoliated by Surfactant Assisted Solution Process

Aafaq Ur Rehman et al.

Summary: In this study, polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) was introduced as an exfoliation agent and dispersant to successfully exfoliate multi-layered interlocked silicalite-1 zeolite nanosheets into large lateral sizes. The strong penetration of PVP into the multi-lamellar nanosheets, assisted by sonication and mild milling, contributed to the expansion of the distance between layers and decreased interactions. The stability of the exfoliated nanosheets in organic solvents was confirmed, with good dispersion and stability in n-butanol for 30 days.
