SnS2-covalent organic framework Z-scheme van der Waals heterojunction for enhanced photocatalytic reduction of uranium (VI) in rare earth tailings wastewater

Xin Liu et al.

Summary: Uranium removal by photocatalytic reduction is effectively achieved using a Z-scheme van der Waals heterojunction photocatalyst (SnS2COF) synthesized by combining covalent organic frameworks (COF) with semiconductor (SnS2). The SnS2COF heterojunction exhibits superior U (VI) reduction capacity in rare earth tailings wastewater due to wider light absorption range, more active sites, and higher electron-hole separation and transfer efficiency. Under photoexcitation, the heterojunction maintains high reducibility and avoids photocorrosion of SnS2. The organic-inorganic heterojunction design concept provides an alternative strategy to enhance photocatalytic performance.

Solvent-induced fabrication of Cu/MnOx nanosheets with abundant oxygen vacancies for efficient and long-lasting photothermal catalytic degradation of humid toluene vapor

Shanliang Jiang et al.

Summary: The construction of highly-active photothermal catalysts with high quantum efficiency and superior heat resistance is a challenge for degrading volatile organic compounds (VOCs) under high humidity. A novel solvent-induced dimensionality reduction strategy was proposed to engineer a nanosheeted and polycrystalline Cu/Mn-based catalyst (M-Cu/MnOx) with interfacial oxygen vacancies for enhanced photothermal catalytic degradation of toluene under highly humid conditions. The newly designed M-Cu/MnOx catalyst achieved ultra-high toluene conversion and deep mineralization under RH = 80% and continuous catalytic reaction, exhibiting significantly higher toluene degradation rate compared to state-of-the-art photothermal catalysts.

Inhibition of superoxide radical diffusion by Van der Waals forces for boosting photocatalytic H2O2 production

Lijun Hu et al.

Summary: In this study, a concept of locally enriching superoxide radicals (& BULL;O2 ) on the PSI/C3N4 photocatalyst surface was proposed and achieved. Theoretical calculations and temperature-dependent photocatalytic studies showed that PSI on the C3N4 surface can act as a diffusion buffer for & BULL;O2 , capturing them through Van der Waals interactions and separating them by energy perturbations. As a result, a local enrichment of & BULL;O2  was established on the PSI/C3N4 surface during photocatalysis, leading to enhanced conversion of & BULL;O2  to H2O2. The PSI/C3N4-4 photocatalyst produced H2O2 at a rate approximately 2.4 and 2.65 times higher than pure C3N4 under visible light and LED irradiation, respectively. This study presents a promising strategy for enhancing photocatalytic H2O2 production efficiency by selectively enriching & BULL;O2  on the catalyst surface.

Oxygen vacancy enhanced visible light photocatalytic selective oxidation of benzylamine over ultrathin Pd/BiOCl nanosheets

Shuai Wei et al.

Summary: Two atomic layered BiOCl nanosheets with rich oxygen vacancies were constructed via surface Pd deposition, exhibiting high photocatalytic activity and selectivity. The ultrathin structure of the nanosheets induces the formation of surface oxygen vacancies, resulting in increased visible light absorption. In-situ experiments revealed that the oxygen vacancy sites contribute to the conversion of O-2 molecules from air to the surface. Furthermore, low-coordinated Bi and Pd sites play crucial roles in the formation of active species.

Fabrication of g-C3N4/Sn3O4/Ni electrode for highly efficient photoelectrocatalytic reduction of U(VI)

Zhongran Dai et al.

Summary: In this study, a photoelectrocatalytic method using a g-C3N4/Sn3O4/Ni (CSN) electrode was proposed for efficient removal of U(VI) from uranium-containing wastewater under visible LED light irradiation. The removal rate of U(VI) reached 94.28% at pH 5.0, significantly higher than the rates achieved by photocatalytic and electrochemical extraction approaches. The excellent photoelectrocatalytic performance of the CSN electrode was attributed to enhanced visible light absorption, promoted separation of electron-hole pairs, and decreased band gap.

Summary: In this study, highly active and stable photocatalysts (CCNCI/ZnO) were successfully constructed to efficiently expand the response region of sunlight, leading to a U(VI) enrichment capacity of up to 2405.3 mg/g within 60 minutes. The enhanced stability of CCNCI/ZnO during photocatalysis was attributed to the enhanced entropy of the Cu80Co5Ni5Cd5In5 nanocrystals.
