Toward quantization of inhomogeneous field theory

O-Kab Kwon et al.

Summary: We explore the quantization of a (1 + 1)-dimensional inhomogeneous scalar field theory with explicitly broken Poincare symmetry. We show the classical equivalence between a scalar field theory on curved spacetime background and its corresponding inhomogeneous scalar field theory. Based on this equivalence, we propose how to quantize a specific field theory with broken Poincare symmetry on curved spacetime, and suggest that the Unruh effect can be realized and tested in inhomogeneous field theory through condensed matter experiments. We also suggest that an algebraic approach is suitable for the quantization of a generic inhomogeneous field theory.

Interfaces and quantum algebras, I: Stable envelopes

Mykola Dedushenko et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the stable envelopes of Okounkov et al., and relates them to quantum field theory. The main points of the research include supersymmetric interfaces in gauge theories, the relation between supersymmetric vacua and generalized cohomology theories, and Berry connections. The paper mainly focuses on softly broken compactified three dimensional N = 4 theories.

Supersymmetric inhomogeneous field theories in 1+1 dimensions

O-Kab Kwon et al.

Summary: This paper studies supersymmetric inhomogeneous field theories in 1+1 dimensions with explicit coordinate dependence. Despite the breaking of translation symmetry, some supersymmetries can still be preserved. The simplest inhomogeneous theories with one real scalar field, possessing unbroken supersymmetry, are considered. The energy is bounded from below by the topological charge, which is not necessarily nonnegative definite. The bound is saturated when the first-order Bogomolny equation is satisfied. Non-constant static supersymmetric solutions, although lacking translation invariance, generally involve a zero mode. Two inhomogeneous theories obtained by deforming supersymmetric sine-Gordon theory and phi(6) theory are investigated. The most general supersymmetric solutions and the BPS energy spectrum for arbitrary position-dependent deformations are explicitly constructed.

Janus and RG-flow interfaces in three-dimensional gauged supergravity

Kevin Chen et al.

Summary: In this paper, we construct Janus-type solutions of three-dimensional gauged supergravity with sixteen supersymmetries. We find solutions that correspond to interfaces between the same CFT on both sides, as well as RG-flow interfaces between CFTs with different numbers of supersymmetries and central charges. These solutions are obtained by solving the flow equations derived from the supersymmetry variations, and preserve a fraction of the supersymmetries of the AdS(3) vacua.

Supersymmetric space-time symmetry breaking sources

Louise Anderson et al.

Summary: The article discusses the construction of new families of deformed supersymmetric field theories by writing deformations as couplings to background multiplets, and also considers backgrounds which preserve some superconformal symmetry, finding scale-invariant field profiles, as well as N = 2 theories on S-3. This work is related to previous research on interface SCFTs and other holographic calculations.
