Improved Algorithm for Phase Generation Carrier to Eliminate the Influence of Modulation Depth With Multi-Harmonics Frequency Mixing

Yuanfei Gong et al.

Summary: In this paper, we proposed an algorithm based on multi-harmonics frequency mixing technology to directly eliminate the real-time phase modulation depth, aiming to avoid its influence on demodulation. Experimental results show that the improved algorithm achieves a SINAD of 37.1 dB when the modulation depth is between 1.5 and 3.5 radians, which is 13.2 dB higher on average compared to the traditional PGC-Arctan algorithm. The THD of the improved algorithm reaches 0.322%, consistently maintaining the best level of the traditional PGC-Arctan algorithm. This algorithm provides an effective reference for practical applications of fiber-optic interferometric sensors.

Summary: A novel phase carrier generation method for a sinusoidal phase-modulating laser homodyne interferometric vibrometer is proposed, which utilizes liquid surface acoustic waves for low-cost phase modulation. An improved PGC-Arctan algorithm is introduced to eliminate nonlinear demodulation errors caused by changes in interference signal parameters. Experimental results confirm the feasibility of the proposed method, showing an average THD of -43.82 dB for sinusoidal vibrations at 10 Hz.
