Minimizing buried interfacial defects for efficient inverted perovskite solar cells

Shuo Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, an amphiphilic molecular hole transporter with a multifunctional cyanovinyl phosphonic acid group was used to deposit a superwetting underlayer for perovskite deposition. This enabled the formation of high-quality perovskite films with minimized defects at the buried interface. The resulting perovskite film showed excellent photoluminescence properties and achieved a certified PCE of 25.4%, demonstrating its potential for application in solar cells.

Machine learning enables intelligent screening of interface materials towards minimizing voltage losses for p-i-n type perovskite solar cells

Wu Liu et al.

Summary: Interface engineering is crucial in maximizing the performance of perovskite solar cells (PSCs), and machine learning is used to intelligently screen interface materials to reduce voltage losses in p-i-n type PSCs. Molecular descriptors are employed to enhance the explainability of the machine learning models, and experimental analysis and device simulation are conducted to validate the models. The screening of 3-thiophene ethylamine hydrochloride (ThEACl) demonstrates improved VOC and PCE of PSCs. This work highlights the significance of data-driven analysis in the high-throughput screening of interface materials for high-efficiency PSCs.

Organic Hole-Transport Layers for Efficient, Stable, and Scalable Inverted Perovskite Solar Cells

Yiguo Yao et al.

Summary: This review systematically summarizes recent progress in using organic hole-transporting layers (HTLs) in inverted p-i-n perovskite solar cells (PSCs), including conductive polymers, small molecules, and self-assembled monolayers. The molecular structure, hole-transport properties, energy levels, and relevant device properties and performances of organic HTLs are analyzed. Design principles and future outlook for highly efficient organic HTLs in inverted PSCs are proposed, aiming to inspire further innovative development of novel organic HTLs for more efficient, stable, and scalable inverted PSCs.

Screening interface passivation materials intelligently through machine learning for highly efficient perovskite solar cells

Wu Liu et al.

Summary: This study employs machine learning to establish the correlation between power conversion efficiency (PCE) and interface passivation materials at the atomic level for perovskite solar cells (PSCs), enabling intelligent material screening. High-throughput predictions and density functional theory calculations reveal the passivation mechanisms of interface materials. Experimental validation confirms the reliability of the predictions. The work enables high-throughput and rapid screening/design of interface materials for highly efficient PSCs and provides general screening rules at the atomic level.

Efficient perovskite solar cells via improved carrier management

Jason J. Yoo et al.

Summary: Metal halide perovskite solar cells have shown great potential to disrupt the silicon solar cell market with their improved performance, yet still face limitations in light-harvesting due to charge carrier recombination. Efforts to enhance charge carrier management offer a path to increase device performance and approach the theoretical efficiency limit of PSCs.
