Alkaline phosphatase in clinical practice in childhood: Focus on rickets

Giuseppe Cannalire et al.

Summary: Serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and its isoenzymes play a crucial role in reflecting bone metabolism. ALP increases mineralization and reduces the concentration of an inhibitor of mineral formation. Different isoenzymes of ALP are expressed in different tissues and the bone isoenzyme (B-ALP) is involved in bone turnover. ALP measurements are important in the diagnosis, differentiation, and follow-up of rickets.

Platelet-leukocyte interactions in the pathogenesis of viral infections

Eugenio D. Hottz et al.

Summary: Platelets play important roles in viral syndromes through viral sensing and effector functions; the mechanisms and outcomes of platelet-leukocyte interactions depend on factors such as interacting leukocytes and pathogens; the review focuses on the contributions of platelet-leukocyte interactions to pathophysiological responses during major viral infections.

NOD2-mediated P2Y12 upregulation increases platelet activation and thrombosis in sepsis

Haoxuan Zhong et al.

Summary: Platelets from septic patients exhibit increased P2Y12 hyperactivity and higher P2Y12 expression. NOD2 deficiency attenuates sepsis-induced platelet P2Y12 high expression, hyperactivity, and thrombosis. Prasugrel and ticagrelor are potent P2Y12 inverse agonists with superior antiplatelet and antithrombotic efficacy in experimental sepsis compared to clopidogrel.

Drug-induced liver injury: Asia Pacific Association of Study of Liver consensus guidelines

Harshad Devarbhavi et al.

Summary: Idiosyncratic drug-induced liver injury, common in Asia, may be due to hepatotoxicity from tuberculosis treatment and the widespread use of traditional and complimentary medicine in Asian countries. The consequences of this type of liver injury can range from asymptomatic to severe, often lacking pathognomonic diagnostic serological markers, highlighting the need for awareness and early detection.

Aspirin versus clopidogrel for chronic maintenance monotherapy after percutaneous coronary intervention (HOST-EXAM): an investigator-initiated, prospective, randomised, open-label, multicentre trial

Bon-Kwon Koo et al.

Summary: This study compared the efficacy and safety of clopidogrel and aspirin monotherapy in patients undergoing coronary stenting during the chronic maintenance period. The findings showed that clopidogrel monotherapy was superior to aspirin in preventing adverse clinical events.
