Influence of Teacher-and-Peer Support on Positive Academic Emotions in EFL Learning: The Mediating Role of Mindfulness

Summary: This study explores the relationship between teacher-and-peer support, mindfulness, and positive academic emotions in EFL learning among non-English majors in China. The results indicate that teacher-and-peer support and mindfulness positively predict positive academic emotions, and mindfulness plays a mediating role between teacher-and-peer support and positive academic emotions.

Influence of OTC on OLE for college students: mediating effect of academic emotion and moderating effect of gender

Summary: With the impact of the global epidemic, online learning has become an irreplaceable form of learning for students, and has been widely concerned by the education circles. This study examined the relationships among online teacher care (OTC), online academic emotion (OAE), and online learning engagement (OLE) based on Noddings' caring theory and social role theory. The results showed significant positive correlations between OTC, OAE, and OLE. OAE partially mediated the relationship between OTC and OLE, and gender had a significant moderating effect.

Investigating the antecedents of engagement in online learning: do achievement emotions matter?

L2 Chinese teachers' beliefs about engagement strategies for students in Australia: Findings from Q methodology research

While all teachers realize that following the structure of a given textbook closely and teaching to the test are not suitable approaches in Australia, they have different opinions about emphasizing students' efforts, creating a fun learning environment, and empowering students as partners in their learning. This study provides implications for L2 Chinese teaching and teacher professional development in the Anglophone context.

Modelling students' academic confidence, personality and academic emotions

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between personality traits, academic confidence, and academic emotions using the Big Five trait approach. The results showed that openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, and agreeableness were positively correlated with academic confidence, while neuroticism was negatively correlated with academic confidence. Academic confidence was also found to be positively correlated with positive academic emotions and negatively correlated with negative academic emotions.

A longitudinal study of Pekrun's control-value theory and the internal/external frame of reference model in predicting academic anxiety

Summary: This two-wave longitudinal study examined the individual antecedents of academic anxiety in multiple subjects among 836 Chinese secondary school students over the course of an academic year. The results showed that academic self-concept and interest had a negative effect on anxiety within domains but a positive effect on anxiety across domains. Gender did not moderate the relations between constructs.

A latent profile analysis of EFL learners' self-efficacy: Associations with academic emotions and language proficiency

Personality traits as predictors of language learner engagement

A Control-Value Theory Approach to Boredom in English Classes Among University Students in China

Summary: This study examined the antecedents of boredom in Chinese university students learning English as a foreign language, finding that control-value appraisals predict boredom uniquely or interactively. Qualitative data from interviews with students and teachers showed more complexities in the associations between control-value appraisals and boredom, providing further support for the Control-Value Theory and shedding light on boredom instigation in the L2 learning context.

An intervention promoting understanding of achievement emotions with middle school students
