Iron/aluminum nanocomposites prepared by one-step reduction method and their effects on thermal decomposition of AP and AN

Yong Kou et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the coating of iron on micron-Al and nano-Al powders to enhance their heat release performance and reactivity. The results show that iron was uniformly coated on the surface of aluminum powder, and the Fe/Al composite fuels had a larger specific surface area and improved reactivity compared to pure aluminum. Additionally, the catalytic effects of the Fe/Al composite fuels on ammonium perchlorate and ammonium nitrate were also explored. The findings suggest that the catalysis of pure aluminum powder can be greatly improved by coating it with iron, making the Fe/Al composite fuels a promising candidate for solid propellants.

In Situ Cutting of Ammonium Perchlorate Particles by Co-Bipy scalpel for High Efficiency Thermal Decomposition

Peng Zhou et al.

Summary: The burning rate of solid propellants can be improved by adding catalysts and changing the size of ammonium perchlorate (AP) particles. In this study, using Co-bipy as an example, it is reported that catalysts can induce the structural self-transformation of AP particles during heating and act as a scalpel to cut the particles during decomposition. The catalyst also enhances the oxidation of NH3 by increasing the content of reactive oxygen species and weakening the N-H bond, thereby improving combustion performance.

Characterization, Thermolysis, and Energetic Properties of an MTNP/PETN Eutectic Prepared via the Solvent/Anti-Solvent Method

Yong Kou et al.

Summary: In this study, a eutectic mixture of MTNP and PETN was prepared and characterized, showing high energy and insensitivity characteristics. The thermal decomposition products mainly include H-2, H2O, N-2, CO, NO, N2O, and CO2, with a small amount of CH4. The eutectic is expected to replace TNT-based molten cast explosives.

Glycerol-controlled synthesis of a series of cobalt acid composites and their catalytic decomposition toward several energetic materials

Jingjing Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a series of homogeneous and small particle size cobalt acid composites nano-MCo2O4 were successfully prepared by solvothermal method, with their crystal structure and catalytic performance adjusted by special co-solvents. BaCo2O4 and CuCo2O4 exhibited the best catalytic activity towards ammonium perchlorate and cyclotrimethylenetrinitramine, respectively, due to their higher crystallinity and better catalytic activity of copper ions.
