Predictive role of optical coherence tomography angiography for exudation recurrence in patients with type 1 neovascular age-related macular degeneration treated with pro-re-nata protocol

Mihyun Choi et al.

Summary: By using OCTA, the consecutive changes and predictive features for exudation recurrence in macular neovascularization were identified. The number of open-ended vessels at baseline can be used to predict the recurrence of exudation.

Quantitative OCT angiography findings according to pattern classification of type 1 neovascularization exudative age-related macular degeneration

Mihyun Choi et al.

Summary: In type 1 neovascular age-related macular degeneration (NVAMD), neovascularization patterns with fine branching vessels (C + F + group) were found to be associated with exudative activity. Quantitative analysis revealed that the number of endpoints was related to exudation in the C + F + group.

Longitudinal assessment of type 3 macular neovascularization using 3D volume-rendering OCTA

Enrico Borrelli et al.

Summary: This study investigated the evolution of treatment-naive type 3 macular neovascularization (MNV) undergoing anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) treatment through volume-rendered three-dimensional (3D) optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). It found that type 3 lesions do not disappear completely after loading treatment, and quantitative volume changes in type 3 lesions are directly associated with treatment response.

NEGATIVE VESSEL REMODELING IN STARGARDT DISEASE QUANTIFIED WITH VOLUME-RENDERED OPTICAL COHERENCE TOMOGRAPHY ANGIOGRAPHY

Michael Reich et al.

Summary: This study used optical coherence tomography angiography to quantify retinal vasculature changes in STGD1 patients, revealing a reduced vessel surface area and volume in the central macula. These changes are likely due to the loss of neurosensory tissue with disease progression and may not be favorably influenced by gene transfer and retinal pigment epithelial transplantation. Retinal blood flow assessed by 3D volume-rendered optical coherence tomography angiography could serve as a surrogate marker for vascular changes of the central retina.

Role of Junctional Adhesion Molecule-C in the Regulation of Inner Endothelial Blood-Retinal Barrier Function

Xu Hou et al.

Summary: The study found that JAM-C, highly expressed in retinal capillary endothelial cells, translocated from the cytoplasm to the cytomembrane upon treatment with VEGF or PDGF-C. Modulating JAM-C activity in RCECs affected the adhesion and transmigration of macrophages from wet age-related macular degeneration patients, potentially suggesting a therapeutic target for related ocular diseases. Additionally, elevated serum soluble JAM-C levels may serve as a molecular marker for wAMD.
