A Multi-Rate Dynamic Energy Flow Analysis Method for Integrated Electricity-Gas-Heat System With Different Time-Scale

Yujia Huang et al.

Summary: This paper studies the dynamic energy flow of the integrated energy system (IES) considering the different time-scale among the electric power, heat, and gas networks. A discretization method based on the delay characteristics of pipelines for district heating network (DHN) and a discretization method for natural gas network (NGN) using the temporal step size of DHN as sampling period are proposed. A multi-rate energy flow calculation method for IES is presented, which integrates the NGN and DHN considering different time-scale features. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Dynamic Performance Modeling and Analysis of Power Grids With High Levels of Stochastic and Power Electronic Interfaced Resources

Jae-Kyeong Kim et al.

Summary: This article discusses the challenges posed by the growth of variable renewable energy (VRE), especially distributed energy resources (DERs), in modeling and analyzing the electric power system. The connection of these resources through power electronic interfaces, known as inverter-based resources (IBRs), is changing the system dynamics and reducing grid strength and inertia. Improvement is needed in conventional methodologies for resource integration, network expansion studies, and application-specific electromagnetic transient (EMT) studies. The article presents recent efforts to advance existing approaches by considering the uncertainty in model parameters of DERs, variability of VRE, and EMT dynamics of IBRs for grid planning and operation studies, particularly in the context of Korea's electric power systems.

Understanding and Evaluating Systemwide Impacts of Uncertain Parameters in the Dynamic Load Model on Short-Term Voltage Stability

Jae-Kyeong Kim et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of regional load model uncertainty on power systems' short-term voltage stability. A three-step methodology for evaluating systemwide uncertainty impacts is proposed, including screening possible trajectories of all buses and conducting detailed analysis for selected scenarios. The efficacy and validity of the proposed method is consistently demonstrated through comprehensive studies on both the IEEE test and real Korea power systems.
