Transcatheter closure of ventricular septal defects: preliminary results in children weighing 10 kg or less

Kamran M. Mirza et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the feasibility and complications of device closure of ventricular septal defect in children weighing 10 kg or less with different types of devices. The results showed that transcatheter closure of ventricular septal defect is a safe and valid alternative to surgical closure in children weighing 10 kg or less.

Comparative outcomes of two competitive devices for retrograde closure of perimembranous ventricular septal defects

Raymond N. N. Haddad et al.

Summary: ADOII and MFO are complementary devices for effective retrograde closure of pmVSDs in children, including defects with absent or deficient SAR. ADOII is limited to smaller defects but offers a lower profile and a flexible left-side disk for better maneuverability over the aortic valve during retrograde implantation.

Transcatheter closure of ventricular septal defects in children less than 10 kg: experience from a tertiary care referral hospital in Eastern India

Mahua Roy et al.

Summary: This study assessed the feasibility of percutaneous transcatheter device closure of ventricular septal defects in children weighing less than 10 kg. The results showed that out of 16 children attempted for device closure, 13 were successful and 3 required surgical closure. The short-term outcome of the procedure was good, but careful patient selection is important to avoid complications.

Percutaneous closure of ventricular septal defect using LifeTechTM Konar-MF VSD Occluder: initial and short-term multi-institutional results

Masood Sadiq et al.

Summary: The study assessed the safety, efficacy, and short-term outcomes of ventricular septal defect closure using the KONAR-MFTM VSD Occluder. The results showed that this method is safe and effective in selected patients, including those with perimembranous defects and mild prolapse of the right coronary cusp. Residual leaks and aortic regurgitation are common complications, but are usually minor and can be managed technically.

Rahmat Budi Kuswiyanto et al.

Summary: Transcatheter closure of pmVSD using the KONAR-multi functional occluder (MFO) is a safe, effective, and feasible method. Among the 132 cases evaluated, 95.4% of the patients had successful closure in the first attempt, and the occlusion rate after 12 months was 99.2%.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed the outcomes of transcatheter closure of outlet-type VSD with ADO II in 49 patients, with a success rate of 91.8%. Follow-up results showed that there was no significant aggravation of AR in most patients, indicating feasibility and efficacy of the procedure.

Summary: This study retrospectively reviewed the clinical and follow-up data of 102 children who underwent transcatheter retrograde closure of pmVSD via the femoral artery with ADO II. The results showed that this method is safe, feasible, and effective in selected patients, with a high closure success rate.

Summary: This retrospective study analyzed 49 patients in Thailand who underwent transcatheter VSD closure using ADO II, showing a procedural success rate of 100% and low incidence of major complications at 12-month follow-up. However, a small number of patients still experienced residual shunts and new-onset conduction blocks.
