Anthocyanins as Promising Molecules Affecting Energy Homeostasis, Inflammation, and Gut Microbiota in Type 2 Diabetes with Special Reference to Impact of Acylation

Kang Chen et al.

Summary: Anthocyanins with acylated moieties have different effects on diabetes compared to nonacylated anthocyanins due to their improved stability and probiotic-like properties. This study highlights the recent findings on the antidiabetic effects of acylated anthocyanins, focusing on their modulation of energy metabolism, inflammation, and gut microbiota. The cellular and molecular mechanisms associated with the beneficial effects of these structurally different anthocyanins provide new insights into their potential therapeutic applications in type 2 diabetes.

Anthocyanins in Dairy Cow Nutrition: A Review

Xingzhou Tian et al.

Summary: Oxidative stress in dairy cows is characterized by an imbalance of prooxidants and antioxidants, resulting in high levels of free radicals and a decline in antioxidant defense mechanisms. Anthocyanins, derived from fruit and purple plants, have shown to be effective antioxidants that improve milk quality and alleviate oxidative stress in dairy cows. This paper reviews the definition, absorption pathways, and metabolic pathways of anthocyanins, as well as their effects on rumen fermentation, methane production, antioxidant potential, and milk lipid oxidation in dairy cows. The findings of this paper provide important insights for the future modulation of dairy cow health and productivity using anthocyanins.

Phytonutrient pellet supplementation enhanced rumen fermentation efficiency and milk production of lactating Holstein-Friesian crossbred cows

Maharach Matra et al.

Summary: The objective of this experiment was to investigate the effects of inclusion of dragon fruit peel pellet (DFPP) and dietary non-protein nitrogen (NPN) on nutrients digestibility, rumen fermentation efficiency, plasma antioxidant activity, microbial protein synthesis, milk yield and composition in lactating Holstein-Friesian crossbred cows. The results showed that the inclusion of DFPP increased the intake of rice straw and improved rumen fermentation process, plasma antioxidant activity, microbial protein synthesis, milk yield, and milk fat percentage.

Purple Corn Anthocyanin Affects Lipid Mechanism, Flavor Compound Profiles, and Related Gene Expression of Longissimus Thoracis et Lumborum Muscle in Goats

Xingzhou Tian et al.

Summary: The study showed that consuming purple corn anthocyanins by growing goats can enhance mutton flavor by reducing plasma lipid metabolism parameters and regulating the expression of flavor-related genes in the muscle. This suggests that anthocyanins may regulate mutton flavor through signaling pathways in ruminants. The addition of anthocyanin-rich purple corn pigment to the diet also led to changes in flavor compound profiles in the muscle of goats.
