Victoria Atanasov

Summary: This paper presents new evidence on the predictability of aggregate stock market returns by a labor market based economic indicator - the unemployment gap. Summary: The study shows that stocks of firms headquartered in remote areas do not follow a random walk and are thus informationally inefficient, in contrast to stocks of firms headquartered in central areas. The findings suggest that geographic proximity matters to the speed of information diffusion and the price discovery mechanism, and the results are robust to various factors.
