Numerical simulation and experimental validation of flow characteristics for a butterfly check valve in small modular reactor

Qinglong Wen et al.

Summary: This study performed simulations and validations of the flow characteristics for a butterfly check valve in a small modular reactor using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method. The results showed that the simulation results using the standard k-epsilon model agreed better with the experiment results, indicating the accuracy of this model in analyzing the natural circulation characteristics of small modular reactors.

Experimental Investigation of the Steady-State Flow Field with Particle Image Velocimetry on a Nozzle Check Valve and Its Dynamic Behaviour on the Pipeline System

Zhengbai Chang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the static characteristics and dynamic behavior of a nozzle check valve in industrial piping systems using an experimental bench and PIV technique. The research found that valve disc displacement increases with flow rate, pressure drop and flow obey a quadratic function when Reynolds number exceeds a certain value, and the local vortex area near the flow passage expands with flow improvement.

Study on Transient Flow and Dynamic Characteristics of Dual Disc Check Valve Mounted in Pipeline System during Opening and Closing

Zhengbai Chang et al.

Summary: This study numerically calculates the three-dimensional transient flow of a dual disc check valve and experimentally investigates its dynamic characteristics in a pipeline system. The findings can be useful in designing and selecting check valves and regulating the working conditions of piping systems.

An investigation of pressure build-up effects due to check valve's closing characteristics using dynamic mesh techniques of CFD

Nam-Seok Kim et al.

Summary: This study compared four different moving mesh techniques of CFD and found that these techniques can well describe the dynamic behavior of a swing check valve during closure, but there are differences in predicting the inflowing fluid velocity when the valve is fully closed.
