ULTRA-WIDEFIELD OPTICAL COHERENCE TOMOGRAPHY ANGIOGRAPHY IN MILD FAMILIAL EXUDATIVE VITREORETINOPATHY

You Wang et al.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to investigate the use of ultra-widefield optical coherence tomography angiography (UWF-OCTA) for detecting and evaluating mild familial exudative vitreoretinopathy (FEVR) and to compare its detection ratio with ultra-widefield scanning laser ophthalmoscopy and ultra-widefield fluorescein angiography. The results showed that UWF-OCTA was significantly superior to ultra-widefield scanning laser ophthalmoscopy in detecting peripheral retinal vascular abnormality and peripheral retinal avascular zone. The detection rates of various lesions were comparable to ultra-widefield fluorescein angiography. Additionally, UWF-OCTA effectively detected vitreoretinal traction and small foveal avascular zone.

Changes of the retinal and choroidal vasculature in cerebral small vessel disease

Clara F. Geerling et al.

Summary: This study investigated the changes in retinal and choroidal vasculature in patients with CSVD using optical coherence tomography angiography. The results showed significant alterations in eye vasculature in CSVD patients, which may have implications for the diagnosis and monitoring of CSVD.

Retinal vessel diameters and function in cardiovascular risk and disease

Henner Hanssen et al.

Summary: In the past two decades, evidence has accumulated suggesting that the eye can serve as a unique window for evaluating cardiovascular risk. By analyzing static retinal vessel diameters and recording the dilation of retinal arterioles and venules, researchers can assess subclinical damage to the retinal microvascular structure and function. These findings have the potential to be implemented clinically as reliable risk predictors. Methodological benefits, pitfalls, research gaps, and future directions are discussed in the article, along with the potential use of retinal vessel imaging for screening and monitoring cardiovascular disease. The article provides a comprehensive understanding of retinal vessel imaging, from the anatomical and physiological basics to the methodological approach, allowing for a better understanding of the association between retinal microvascular pathology and the development of cardiovascular disease.
