Interplay Between Seismic and Aseismic Deformation on the Central Range Fault During the 2013 Mw 6.3 Ruisui Earthquake (Taiwan)

Hsiao-Fan Lin et al.

Summary: The study provides evidence of aseismic slip on the Central Range fault (CRF) and observes afterslip as the dominant postseismic deformation following the 2013 Ruisui earthquake sequence.

The role of the west-dipping collision boundary fault in the Taiwan 2022 Chihshang earthquake sequence

Shiann-Jong Lee et al.

Summary: An earthquake with a magnitude 6.6 foreshock and a 7.0 mainshock occurred in southeast Taiwan in September 2022. The earthquake caused surface breaks, collapsed buildings, and one fatality. The source mechanisms showed that the fault planes of both tremors were west-dipping, different from the known fault between the Eurasian Plate and the Philippine Sea Plate. The rupture mainly occurred on a west-dipping fault and propagated northward with a velocity of about 2.5 km/s. The occurrence of the earthquake and previous large local earthquakes provide strong evidence for the existence of the west-dipping Central Range Fault along the Longitudinal Valley.

Variable vertical movements and their deformation behaviors at convergent plate suture: 14-year-long (2004-2018) repeated measurements of precise leveling around middle Longitudinal Valley in eastern Taiwan

Horng-Yue Chen et al.

Summary: The study conducted annual repeated measurements on two leveling routes in eastern Taiwan for 14 years, revealing that the Longitudinal Valley fault dominates the surface deformation with different vertical movements, including tilting and rates of uplift or creep across the plate suture of an arccontinent collision. This provides insights into the complex deformation behaviors in the area, shedding light on the subduction of the Philippine Sea plate and the seismic activities.
