The Optimum Ratio of Digestible Leucine: Lysine in Wheat-based Diets for Female Broiler Chickens From 8-21 Days of Age

S. Amirdahri et al.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to estimate the optimal digestible Leucine (Leu) to Lysine (Lys) ratio for female broiler chickens from 8 to 21 days old. The results showed that a digestible Leu: Lys ratio ranging from 0.93% to 1.18% had the best impact on the growth and carcass traits of the broiler chickens.

Failure of excess leucine to impact live performance and carcass traits in male and female Cobb MV £ 500 broilers during a 15-to 32-day grower period

C. W. Maynard et al.

Summary: Excessive levels of leucine in modern broiler diets can negatively impact broiler performance, but this study suggests that industry levels of isoleucine and valine may be sufficient to overcome the effects of leucine excess.

Functional role of branched chain amino acids in poultry: a review

Woo Kyun Kim et al.

Summary: This review discusses the effects of branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) on poultry growth, production performance, immunity, and intestinal health. The imbalance of BCAA ratio in a low protein diet can hinder poultry growth performance. The recommended levels of BCAA for poultry are influenced by the type of diet, breed, and age of the birds. BCAA supplementation in low protein diets can reduce nitrogen excretion. Further research is needed to understand the impact of BCAA inclusion ratio in different disease-challenged conditions.

Response of Broiler Chicks to Dietary L-Leucine Supplementation in the Starter Period

H. M. Kratei et al.

Summary: The experiment investigated the effects of leucine supplementation on the performance and carcass traits of broilers, as well as re-evaluated the standardized ileal digestible leucine requirement for broiler chicks. Results showed that leucine supplementation improved broiler performance, particularly breast yield, with modern broilers requiring significantly higher levels of leucine due to genetic selection for faster growth.
