The unique sweet potato NAC transcription factor IbNAC3 modulates combined salt and drought stresses

Xiaoqing Meng et al.

Summary: In this study, a stress-induced transcription factor named IbNAC3 from sweet potato was identified. IbNAC3 was found to enhance the tolerance of Arabidopsis to single and combined salt and drought stresses. It interacts with a group of NAC transcription factors and regulates the expression of downstream target genes, thus affecting stress tolerance. Additionally, IbNAC3 regulates the ubiquitin pathway and abscisic acid signaling to modulate the combined stress tolerance.

The PYR-PP2C-CKL2 module regulates ABA-mediated actin reorganization during stomatal closure

Yue Shi et al.

Summary: Reducing transpiration aids plant survival during limited water conditions. Gene expression regulated by abscisic acid (ABA) and the activation of anion channels control stomatal closure and stress responses during drought. Additionally, actin reorganization mediated by CKL2 kinase activity further contributes to maintaining stomatal closure and fine-tunes ABA signaling in plants.

The wheat ABA receptor gene TaPYL1-1B contributes to drought tolerance and grain yield by increasing water-use efficiency

Hude Mao et al.

Summary: Research shows that overexpressing the PYL gene TaPYL1-1B in wheat can lead to increased ABA sensitivity, photosynthetic capacity, and water-use efficiency, ultimately improving drought tolerance and yield. Candidate gene association analysis suggests that the favorable allele TaPYL1-1B(In-442) enhances expression of TaPYL1-1B in drought-tolerant genotypes, showing its potential as a valuable genetic target for developing drought-tolerant wheat germplasm.

Abscisic acid insensitive 4 interacts with ICE1 and JAZ proteins to regulate ABA signaling-mediated cold tolerance in apple

Jian-Ping An et al.

Summary: In this study, it was demonstrated that the AP2/ERF family protein MdABI4 integrates jasmonic acid and abscisic acid signals to modulate cold tolerance through the JAZ-ABI4-ICE1-CBF regulatory cascade in apple. Furthermore, the negative modulation of MdABI4-improved cold tolerance by MdJAZ1 and MdJAZ2 was found to be through interference with the interaction between MdABI4 and MdICE1 proteins. These findings provide insights into the crosstalk between jasmonic acid and abscisic acid signals in response to cold stress.

The IbPYL8-IbbHLH66-IbbHLH118 complex mediates the abscisic acid-dependent drought response in sweet potato

Luyao Xue et al.

Summary: In this study, two bHLH proteins, IbbHLH118 and IbbHLH66, were found to play opposite roles in the ABA-mediated drought response in sweet potato. While IbbHLH118 inhibits the expression of ABA-responsive genes, IbbHLH66 enhances drought tolerance. The formation of the IbPYL8-IbbHLH66-IbbHLH118 complex activates ABA responses and enhances drought tolerance.
