Light-driven dandelion-inspired microfliers

Yuanhao Chen et al.

Summary: Inspired by the flight mechanism of dandelion seeds, researchers have developed light-driven dandelion-inspired microfliers that can achieve mid-air flight above a light source. These microfliers, based on ultralight and super-sensitive tubular-shaped soft actuators, can control their falling velocity by adjusting the deformation of the pappus under different light irradiations. The resulting microfliers exhibit light-driven upward flight accompanied by autorotating motion, and the rotation mode can be customized in either a clockwise or counterclockwise direction.

Topoarchitected polymer networks expand the space of material properties

Xiao Liu et al.

Summary: Architected polymer networks with strong adhesion were fabricated through sequential polymerization and photolithography. The adherent interface was achieved by topological entanglement. This approach allows for the development of materials with high elastic limit strain and toughness, which is rarely achieved in synthetic materials. Various geometric patterns and material combinations were explored to expand the space of material properties.

Influence of the a-Methyl Group on Elastic-To-Glassy Transition of Supramolecular Hydrogels with Hydrogen-Bond Associations

Xin Ning Zhang et al.

Summary: The molecular structure of supramolecular hydrogels significantly affects their mechanical and viscoelastic behaviors. Increasing the number of alpha-methyl groups in the hydrogel composition can transition the gel from an elastic to a glassy state. The presence of methyl groups on the carboxylic acid unit enhances the stability of the hydrogel more significantly than on the acrylamide unit.
