Polyferrocenylsilane Block Copolymer Spherulites in Dilute Solution

Jingjie Jiang et al.

Summary: By heating and cooling, various PFS BCPs can form uniform spherulitelike structures in various solvents. The growth trajectory of these structures is from elongated lamellae into hedrites, sheaf-like micelles, and finally spherulites. General prerequisites for fabricating PFS BCP spherulites in solution have been identified, including corona/PFS core block ratios and the formation of secondary crystals on the basal faces of platelets in early stages of self-assembly. Manipulation of the self-assembly protocol can regulate the size and shape of the structures.

Co-Self-seeding: A facile approach to generate heterogeneous p-Conjugated Fiber-Like comicelles with tunable Length, composition and morphology

Jiucheng Nie et al.

Summary: The co-self-seeding approach of living crystallization-driven self-assembly (CDSA) allows for the generation of fiber-like micelles with a tunable length/composition/morphology of the π-conjugated core. However, the understanding of this approach in the preparation of fiber-like micelles with a heterogeneous π-conjugated core is limited. This study demonstrates that polydisperse comicelles with a heterogeneous OPE9/OPV5 core can be formed via crystallization-driven co-self-assembly, and that apparent continuous and segmented fiber-like comicelles can be generated through co-self-seeding.

Seeded Epitaxial Growth of Crystallizable Polymers Governed by Crystallization Temperatures

Liping Liu et al.

Summary: Seeded growth, a CDSA approach, is a powerful method for preparing polymer nanomaterials with precise control over size and compositions. This study explores the effect of crystallization temperatures on the epitaxial growth of different polymer blends. It shows that crystallographic matching is necessary but not sufficient for successful growth, and the critical size of nuclei is dominated by the thickness of the crystalline substrate.

Precise Control of Two-Dimensional Platelet Micelles from Biodegradable Poly(p-dioxanone) Block Copolymers by Crystallization-Driven Self-Assembly

Xu Zhang et al.

Summary: The research demonstrates that size control of 2D PPDO platelets can be improved by modulating solvent compositions or elevating crystallization temperatures, leading to the creation of nanomaterials with precise size and shape control. Additionally, adjusting crystallization conditions can result in shape changes of 2D platelet micelles from quasi-square to lozenge shapes, as well as achieving spatially defined block comicelles. The excellent water stability and biocompatibility of the 2D PPDO platelet micelles further suggest their potential application as cargo vehicles in drug delivery.

Even-Odd Effect in Aliphatic Polycarbonates with Different Chain Lengths: from Poly (Hexamethylene Carbonate) to Poly (Dodecamethylene Carbonate)

Ricardo A. Perez-Camargo et al.

Summary: The study revealed that the thermal properties and crystalline structure of aliphatic polycarbonates synthesized by organocatalysis are influenced by the number of methylene groups in their repeating units, showing a clear even-odd effect and a saturation of this effect. The even-odd region displayed differences in melting temperatures and unit cell structures between even and odd samples, while the saturation region showed a linear change in thermal properties with increasing methylene groups. The memory effect was weakened as the number of methylene groups increased, leading to a shift in conformation towards a PE-like structure.

An Amphiphilic Corona-Forming Block Promotes Formation of a Variety of 2D Platelets via Crystallization-Driven Block Copolymer Self-Assembly

Shaofei Song et al.

Summary: Crystallization-driven self-assembly of a poly(ferrocenyldimethylsilane) (PFS) block copolymer with amphiphilic pendant groups was studied by varying the block ratio and using a wide range of solvents. The self-assembly in different solvents resulted in various morphologies, such as rounded rectangular platelets in 2-propanol and leaf-shaped structures in 1-octanol. The addition of unimers led to the formation of 3D circular spirals in 1-pentanol, indicating solvent-dependent morphological transitions.

Summary: The design of hybrid hierarchical architectures remains challenging, but the use of crystallization-driven selfassembly methods can help in constructing brushlike structures with controlled shape and size on carbon nanotubes. By anchoring seeds through hydrogen bonding and using in situ CDSA process with added monomers, brushlike heterostructures containing both CNTs and CDSA nanoassemblies were fabricated. The shape of the crystals changed from platelets to long and thin crystals with increasing mass ratios of seed micelles to CNTs.
