Numerical Study of New-Type Receiver with Axially-Hollow Spiral Deflector for Parabolic Trough Direct-Steam-Generation Loop of Concentrating Solar Power System

Yaolu Shi et al.

Summary: This study proposed a new-type receiver with axially-hollow spiral deflector and optimized the geometric structure to solve the thermal stress-induced deformation issue. The simulation results showed that the new-type receiver demonstrated outstanding comprehensive performance by minimizing the circumferential temperature difference and lowering the flow resistance cost. Different optimal designs were achieved based on the importance of temperature uniformity improvement and performance evaluation criteria.

A new solar mid-and-low temperature receiver/reactor with linear Fresnel reflector

Buchu Lu et al.

Summary: A new method for hydrogen production is proposed, which combines a linear Fresnel reflector, a compound parabolic concentrator, a mid-and-low temperature receiver/reactor, and methanol steam reforming reaction to achieve a more uniform distribution of solar flux, temperature, and deformation in the receiver/reactor. The study shows that the linear Fresnel reflector can achieve a more uniform temperature distribution compared to the traditional parabolic trough collector, effectively alleviating local overheating and decreasing thermal deformation.

High-quality quasi-monochromatic near-field radiative heat transfer designed by adaptive hybrid Bayesian optimization

Zhang WenBin et al.

Summary: In this study, an adaptive hybrid Bayesian optimization algorithm was used to design high-quality quasi-monochromatic and multi-peak near-field radiative heat transfer. By optimizing numerous candidate structures, the optimal structure was found with only a small fraction of the candidates being calculated. The optimal structure is an aperiodic multilayer metamaterial with excellent performance. Furthermore, the robustness and mechanisms of the optimal quasi-monochromatic near-field radiative heat transfer were investigated under different vacuum gap distances and temperature differences.

Summary: A trans-dimensional multi-physics coupled analysis method is proposed to predict the global performance and accurately quantify the local deformation of the heat collection element in concentrated solar power plants. Different worst scenarios are identified in different sections of the loop, highlighting the importance of considering practical installation errors and the interaction between HCE and concentrator.
