Molecular pathogenesis of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment

Tiina Ohman et al.

Summary: System pathology analysis of vitreous proteins in patients with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment revealed specific proteome profiles compared to other eye diseases, indicating activation of mechanisms like glycolysis, photoreceptor death, and signaling pathways to promote retinal cell survival. Additionally, platelet-mediated wound healing processes, reorganization of cell adhesion molecules, and apoptotic processes were also detected during disease progression.

Local photoreceptor cell death differences in the murine model of retinal detachment

Daniel E. Maidana et al.

Summary: The study investigated local cell death differences in the attached and detached retina at different regions in a murine experimental retinal detachment model. The detached apex region showed a significant and progressive cell count reduction, while the detached base region did not exhibit progressive retinal degeneration in this model. Immediate confounding changes with dramatic differences in cell death rates were observed across regions of the detached retina.
