Coalescence of surface bubbles: The crucial role of motion-induced dynamic adsorption layer

Jan Zawala et al.

Summary: This study provides the first quantitative proof of the influence of dynamic adsorption layers on the drainage dynamics of single foam films formed under dynamic conditions. By measuring the drainage dynamics of single foam films formed by air bubbles colliding against the interface between n-octanol solutions and air, it was found that the morphology of the single film during drainage is closely related to the state of the dynamic adsorption layer during the rising and bouncing steps of the bubble. It is demonstrated that the lifetime of surface bubbles is intimately related to the history of their formation.

Interferometry and Simulation of the Thin Liquid Film between a Free-Rising Bubble and a Glass Substrate

Ivan U. Vakarelski et al.

Summary: This study examines the accuracy of numerical simulations in predicting the dynamics of thin liquid film drainage during the collision of bubbles or droplets. Experimental investigations of millimetric bubbles colliding with a flat glass interface in pure water were compared with numerical simulations using the open source Gerris flow solver. The simulation results showed excellent agreement with experimental observations in terms of the bounce trajectory and thin liquid film profile. The study highlights the potential of numerical simulations in resolving the complex processes of high velocity bubble and droplet collisions.

Understanding the mechanism of froth flotation of molybdenite using oily collectors from a perspective of thinning and rupture of thin liquid film

Yuesheng Gao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of hydrocarbon oils on thinning and rupture of thin liquid films between air bubbles and molybdenite face surfaces. The results showed that the film rupture is predominantly attributed to the instability of the thin liquid films between air bubbles and oil droplets adsorbed on the molybdenite surfaces. Kerosene exhibited better dispersibility in DI water than dodecane, making it a more suitable collector for froth flotation of molybdenite.
