Effect of quenching residual stress on precipitation behaviour of 7085 aluminium alloy

Jin Liu et al.

Summary: The quenching-induced residual stress in ultrahigh strength Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloys significantly affects the precipitation behavior during subsequent heat treatment and the properties of the final products. This study investigated the effects of quenching residual stress on the precipitation behavior of 7085 Al alloy through various methods, including finite element analysis and microstructural examinations. The results revealed that the reduction in residual stress increases with the increase in cladding layer thickness, and the residual stress has a significant impact on the hardness distribution. The elastic lattice distortion caused by residual stress was found to promote the nucleation of precipitates during artificial aging process. The mechanisms underlying the effect of quenching residual stress on the precipitation of 7085 Al alloy were also discussed.

Effect of Homogenization Process on Microstructure of Al-Zn-Mg-Cu Aluminum Alloys

Summary: The best homogenization process for eliminating coarse phases in the Al-Zn-Mg-Cu aluminum alloy was determined through calculation and experimental verification. The sigma[Mg(Zn, Al, Cu)(2)] phase dissolves and transforms into the S(Al2CuMg) phase during the process. The concentration differences between the grain center and the eutectic of structure of Zn, Mg, and Cu were established, providing reference for experimental parameter design.

Improving the strength contribution of T1 precipitates in Al-4Cu-1.2Li-0.1Sc alloys by dissolving Cu-enriched second phases

Yuankang Xie et al.

Summary: The effect of solution temperature on microstructures and mechanical properties of the Al-Cu-Li-Sc alloy was studied. The diffusion rate of Cu atoms in Cu-enriched second phases increased with the solution treatment temperature, leading to the formation of more T1 precipitates. The increase in Cu atomic concentration in Al solid solution improved the precipitation kinetics of the T1 phase and resulted in an improvement in hardness and yield strength.

The effect of rolling temperature on the microstructure and properties of multi pass rolled 7A04 aluminum alloy

Peng Sun et al.

Summary: The current research mainly focuses on solid solution and aging treatments, as well as the flow stress during the deformation process of 7-series aluminum alloys. Limited research has been conducted on the influence of thermal deformation temperature on the microstructure and properties of the alloy during multi-pass hot rolling. This study investigated the effects of different deformation parameters on dislocation density and analyzed the microstructural characterization of the deformed alloy using various techniques. The optimal microstructure was selected based on recrystallization size, and finite element simulation was conducted to analyze the multi-pass hot rolling process. The results showed that the deformation temperature significantly affected the recrystallized microstructure and dislocation density, and the uniformity of strain distribution within the alloy was influenced by the temperature distribution.

Dislocation motion in plastic deformation of nano polycrystalline metal materials: a phase field crystal method study

Yuhong Zhao et al.

Summary: The evolution mechanisms of grain boundaries and dislocations in polycrystalline composites at low and high temperatures were studied using the phase field crystal method. The plastic deformation of nano polycrystalline composites involves four stages, and the motion of dislocation changes with temperature. The research shows that the mode and rate of dislocation entering grain boundary can be controlled by temperature, which can regulate the mechanical properties of nano polycrystalline materials.
