Regioisomeric Cyanated Polythiophenes Bearing Polar Side Chains for n-Type Organic Thermoelectrics

Jianfeng Li et al.

Summary: This study reports two novel donor-acceptor-configurated n-type polythiophene polymers (BTOgCN-FT and BTCNOg-FT) with regiochemically tuned intramolecular S center dot center dot center dot O noncovalent interactions (INIs) and cyanation patterns for n-type thermoelectric application. The cyanation modification leads to low-lying LUMO energy levels and high dopant miscibility, resulting in efficient n-doping efficiencies. Experimental studies show that BTOgCN-FT exhibits a more planar backbone conformation and more ordered interchain packing, yielding higher electrical values than BTCNOg-FT.

Ambipolar organic phototransistors with bulk heterojunction films of p-type and n-type indacenodithienothiophene-containing conjugated polymers

Hyunji Son et al.

Summary: Organic phototransistors were developed using ambipolar polymers consisting of p-type and n-type indacenodithienothiophene (IDTT)-based conjugated polymers. The p-type polymer, PIDTT-8OBT, synthesized via Stille coupling reactions, demonstrated efficient light detection in p-channel mode for blue, green, and orange light and ambipolar characteristics when blended with an n-type polymer, PIDTT-NDI, covering a wide range of visible light up to 750 nm. The ambipolar OPTRs showed high photosensitivity in both p-channel and n-channel modes at different wavelengths, with a notable capability to detect deep red light not absorbed by the polymer blend.

Ayano Yoshitake et al.

Summary: Incorporating a short perfluoroethylene Rf chain at the end of syndiotactic poly(substituted methylene) side chains enhances hydrophobicity and prolongs water repellency. The persistent water repellency of PM is attributed to its liquid crystal structure, with side chains extending perpendicularly from the main chains.

High-performance polymer solar cells with efficiency over 18% enabled by asymmetric side chain engineering of non-fullerene acceptors

Shihao Chen et al.

Summary: The research suggests that asymmetric side-chain engineering can effectively tune the properties of non-fullerene small-molecule acceptors (NFSMAs) and improve the power conversion efficiency for binary non-fullerene polymer solar cells (NFPSCs). Introducing proper asymmetric side chains in NFSMAs can induce favorable face-on molecule orientation, enhance carrier mobilities, balance charge transport, and reduce recombination losses, leading to improved overall performance in NFPSCs.
