Levitodynamics: Levitation and control of microscopic objects in vacuum

C. Gonzalez-Ballestero et al.

Summary: The control and manipulation of levitated nano- and micro-objects in vacuum, utilizing scientific achievements in various disciplines, offer great potential for both scientific research and technological applications. Recent experimental successes, such as achieving motional ground-state cooling of optically levitated nanoparticles, have opened up attractive research directions ranging from fundamental quantum physics to commercial sensors. Levitodynamics, as a multidisciplinary research area, is devoted to understanding, controlling, and utilizing levitated nano- and micro-objects in vacuum.
