Comparison between ultrasound-guided multi-injection intertransverse process and thoracic paravertebral blocks for major breast cancer surgery: a randomized non-inferiority trial

Hongye Zhang et al.

Summary: This study found that compared with thoracic paravertebral block, intertransverse process block provided non-inferior analgesia within 30 minutes in the recovery room and non-inferior recovery quality at 24 hours following major breast cancer surgery.

Pro and Con: How Important Is the Exact Location of Adductor Canal and Femoral Triangle Blocks?

Glenn E. Woodworth et al.

Summary: In this article, we discuss the importance of anterior thigh block locations for pain control after total knee arthroplasty. We analyze the anatomy, current literature, and clinical perspectives to present the arguments for and against different block locations. The pro side argues that more distal block locations may exclude important nerves while increasing the risk of spread, while the con side maintains that the exact injection location may not have a clinically relevant impact.

Posterior quadratus lumborum block versus epidural analgesia for postoperative pain management after open radical cystectomy: A randomized clinical trial

Andrus Korgvee et al.

Summary: This study compared the effectiveness of posterior quadratus lumborum block (QLB) and epidural analgesia for postoperative pain after open radical cystectomy. The researchers found that there was no significant difference in opioid consumption between the two methods during the first two postoperative days.

Priorities for content for a short-course on postoperative care relevant for low- and middle-income countries: an e-Delphi process with training facilitators

M. V. Cerezo de Hermes et al.

Summary: Most surgical and anaesthetic mortality and morbidity occurs postoperatively, disproportionately affecting low- and middle-income countries. A short course addressing postoperative care and complications was proposed using a Delphi process with anaesthesia providers from low- and middle-income countries as facilitators. The study identified key features of the proposed course, including content, teaching method, participants, and faculty. There were variations across geographical regions in terms of perceived importance of course features, highlighting the need for regional adaptation of short-course design.

The pathway of injectate spread during thoracic intertransverse process (ITP) block: Micro-computed tomography findings and anatomical evaluations

Tae-Hyeon Cho et al.

Summary: This study investigates the mechanism of action of the thoracic intertransverse process (ITP) block using three-dimensional micro-computed tomography (3D micro-CT) and cadaveric evaluation. The results suggest that the space posterior to the superior costotransverse ligament serves as a potential anatomical pathway for the thoracic paravertebral space during ITP block.

Ultrasound-Guided Interpectoral and Pectoserratus Plane Blocks in Breast Surgery: An Alternative Option to General Anaesthesia in an Elderly Woman with a Complex Medical History

Carmelo Pirri et al.

Summary: Breast cancer remains the most common cancer among women worldwide, with surgery being the main treatment option. However, general anesthesia often leads to side effects such as nausea, vomiting, and postoperative pain, which can be reduced by using loco-regional anesthesia as an alternative.

Adductor canal block versus femoral nerve block for pain control after total knee arthroplasty: A systematic review and Meta-analysis

Elfatih A. Hasabo et al.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis of 33 studies found that adductor canal block provides better preservation of quadriceps muscle strength and mobilization compared to femoral nerve block following total knee arthroplasty. However, there was no significant difference between the two interventions in terms of pain control or opioid consumption.

Standardizing nomenclature in regional anesthesia: an ASRA-ESRA Delphi consensus study of abdominal wall, paraspinal, and chest wall blocks

Kariem El-Boghdadly et al.

Summary: This study achieved standardized nomenclature for abdominal wall, paraspinal, and chest wall regional anesthetic techniques through an international consensus involving 60 expert Collaborators. Strong consensus was reached for the names of 16 block names and weak consensus for four names. The harmonization and standardization of nomenclature may lead to improved education, research, and patient care.
