Multiple Hypothesis Testing in Conjoint Analysis

Guoer Liu et al.

Summary: Conjoint analysis is widely used for estimating the effects of multiple treatments, but it suffers from multiple hypothesis testing. This paper shows that the standard analysis pipeline often produces statistically significant estimates even when no treatment has any effect. It compares three correction methods and finds that all three are more accurate than the conventional analysis without correction, with the Ash method performing the best.

Do Opinions of Policy Target Population Deservingness Correlate to Public Service Motivation? Insights from Medicaid

Jacqueline Chattopadhyay et al.

Summary: Perceptions of deservingness are crucial in the policy process and can be influenced by public administration concepts. This study examines the relationship between deservingness assessments and public service motivation, finding that they are often correlated. However, racial sentiments can diminish the significance of public service motivation in these assessments, and there is no evidence of public service motivation moderating the relationship between deservingness assessments and beliefs about policy beneficiaries.

Using Conjoint Experiments to Analyze Election Outcomes: The Essential Role of the Average Marginal Component Effect

Kirk Bansak et al.

Summary: This paper demonstrates the theoretical and empirical significance of the average marginal component effect (AMCE) as an aggregation of individual-level preferences. It shows how the AMCE combines the directionality and intensity of multidimensional preferences according to a probabilistic generalization of the Borda rule. The paper also highlights the importance of considering both directionality and intensity in analyzing real-world elections and explores how this aggregation can be used to study various quantities of interest to election scholars.

Pay-for-performance, job attraction, and the prospects of bureaucratic representation in public organizations: evidence from a conjoint experiment

Mogens Jin Pedersen et al.

Summary: Based on a conjoint experiment with 1,501 US residents, we find that pay-for-performance does not affect attraction to a public service job differently across race, gender, and age as theorized. In fact, pay-for-performance may enhance job attractiveness among individuals identifying with minority racial groups.

Are effect sizes in self-efficacy field changing over time? A meta-meta analysis

Xinian Jiao et al.

Summary: The concept of self-efficacy, proposed by Bandura in 1977, has seen rapid development in theories. Studies have shown that individual self-efficacy tends to increase over time, possibly related to social development trends. However, the effects of interventions on self-efficacy remain consistent, suggesting that time effects may confound intervention effects.

Dominik Vogel et al.

Summary: Recent developments in the social sciences have highlighted the need to critically assess published research in order to rule out the effects of questionable research practices that may lead to misleading conclusions. The introduction of the p-curve method offers a way to evaluate the evidential value of a body of research, as demonstrated in the analysis of the relationship between public service motivation (PSM) and individual performance.
