Power spectral parameter variations after transcranial direct current stimulation in a bimanual coordination task

Atefeh Azarpaikan et al.

Summary: Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) can modulate neuronal membrane excitability by applying a weak electric current to the brain, particularly in the parietal cortex and cerebellum. This study found that anodal tDCS led to changes in brain wave frequencies, with increases in alpha, beta, and SMR power bands during stimulation sessions for the parietal group, and increases in theta, alpha, beta, and SMR power bands in the cerebellum group during and after stimulation sessions. Additionally, tDCS intervention resulted in various brain activations, particularly showing significant improvement in off-line learning with cerebellar tDCS during a motor task.

Efficacy and acceptability of transcranial direct current stimulation for treating depression: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

Ruibin Zhang et al.

Summary: Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is considered effective in treating depression, particularly in modulating depressive symptoms. However, the differences in reducing response and remission rates did not reach statistically significant levels. tDCS may be a viable option for the treatment of depression.

Follow-up effects of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) for the major depressive episode: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis on the efficacy of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) during the acute phase of a major depressive episode (MDE), finding a potential improvement in depression symptoms during the follow-up period. The results suggest that tDCS may have effects beyond the intervention period and maintenance sessions are recommended for future research.

Transcranial direct current stimulation as an adjunct to cognitive training for older adults with mild cognitive impairment: A randomized controlled trial

Summary: The combination of tDCS with CT in older adults with MCI did not show superior effects on domain-specific cognitive outcomes compared to using sham tDCS with CT or CT alone. However, the combined method had larger effect sizes and improved processing speed of task-specific outcomes.

Recruitment characteristics and non-adherence associated factors of fibromyalgia patients in a randomized clinical trial: A retrospective survival analysis

Alejandra Cardenas-Rojas et al.

Summary: Fibromyalgia is a complex pain condition that predominantly affects women, leading to poor adherence to medication and mistrust of medical services due to a lack of understanding. This study focused on recruitment characteristics and non-adherence factors among fibromyalgia patients in an RCT. Findings showed that about 38% of patients were non-adherent to the protocol, with significant factors including anxiety levels, Body Mass Index (BMI), and Quality of Life (QoL).
