A Literature Review of Studies that Have Compared the Use of Face-To-Face and Online Focus Groups

Janet E. Jones et al.

Summary: Online communication has increased significantly since the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to the adoption of online methods in qualitative research. This review examines the use and utility of online focus groups compared to face-to-face focus groups. The findings suggest that there is no clear consensus on whether face-to-face or online focus groups have specific advantages in terms of data produced and resources required. Researchers may consider using online focus groups when time and resources are limited or more practical.
