Microcellular foam of styrene-isobutylene-styrene copolymer with N2 using polypropylene as a crystallization nucleating and shrinkage reducing agent

Weiyuan Lin et al.

Summary: Styrene-isobutylene-styrene copolymer (SIBS) is a thermoplastic elastomer with excellent chemical stability, biocompatibility, and low gas permeability. By introducing polypropylene (PP) in foam injection molding processes, the foamability can be improved and the shrinkage of SIBS foams can be impeded.

Polypropylene Composites with Ultrahigh Low-Temperature Toughness by Tuning the Phase Morphology

Zhongguo Zhao et al.

Summary: In this study, ultrahigh low-temperature impact toughness was achieved in iPP/0.1 wt % S-NAs/30 wt % OBC blends by adjusting the CNT content. The optimal CNT content resulted in a co-continuous phase morphology, enhancing stress dissipation. Additionally, the distribution of CNTs and the presence of self-toughened S-crystals contributed to improving the low-temperature impact strength of iPP-based composites.

Investigation of TiO2 Nano Filler in Mechanical, Thermal Behaviour of Sisal/Jute Fiber Reinforced Interpenetrating Polymer Network (IPN) Composites

Kumar Vijayendra Gopal et al.

Summary: In this study, various proportions of titanium dioxide nano-filler were used along with sisal/jute fiber reinforcement to enhance the physical properties of composite materials. The mixture of epoxy and polyurethane was chosen as the matrix material to achieve interpenetrating polymer networks. TGA, tensile, flexural, impact, short beam strength, and water absorption tests were conducted to evaluate the thermo-mechanical characteristics of the composite materials. The results showed that incorporating 5% TiO2 improved the mechanical properties and thermal stability of the composite.

Unexpected Improvement of Both Mechanical Strength and Elasticity of EPDM/PP Thermoplastic Vulcanizates by Introducing β-Nucleating Agents

Yucen Shen et al.

Summary: In this study, a beta-nucleating agent was introduced into TPVs to induce the formation of beta-PP crystals. The TPVs with beta-PP crystals showed significantly higher mechanical strength and elasticity compared to TPVs with alpha-PP crystals. Through the use of 2D-WAXD and AFM-NM techniques, the structure changes and deformation mechanisms of TPVs were carefully studied.
