Summary: This study investigates the use of general extenders in Nigerian English compared to British English using a variational corpus-pragmatic framework. Data from the Nigerian and British components of the International Corpus of English are analyzed. The findings show systematic differences in the use of general extenders between Nigerian and British English. Nigerian English users overall employ general extenders less frequently, largely due to a lower preference for disjunctive extenders. However, there are no significant differences in the frequency of adjunctive and other general extenders. The study also identifies unique variants of general extenders in Nigerian English. The results highlight the importance of register and regional differences in determining general extender usage among English users.
