Political elite discourses polarize attitudes toward immigration along ideological lines. A comparative longitudinal analysis of Europe in the twenty-first century

Summary: This study examines how immigration-related political elite discourses affect natives' attitudes towards immigration and contribute to polarization. The results indicate that anti-immigrant attitudes increase when political elites express more exclusionary sentiments towards immigration, while they decrease when political elites express more inclusionary sentiments. Furthermore, exclusionary discourses primarily resonate with right-wing voters.

Recognition Gaps and COVID Inequality: The Case of Immigrants in Sweden

Summary: In this article, the recognition gaps exposed by the coronavirus pandemic are explored using Lamont's cultural processes of inequality framework in the context of COVID inequality in Sweden. The analysis reveals cultural processes of inequality, such as the racialization of immigrants and the stigmatization of immigrant spaces, contradicting the dominant narrative of Sweden as an open and equal society. Two additional cultural processes, resignification and inversion, are identified. The article emphasizes the importance of recognizing and addressing these gaps for promoting justice and equality.

Safe but isolated - an interview study with Iraqi refugees in Sweden about social networks, social support, and mental health

Summary: This study examined the social networks and social support of Iraqi refugees who arrived in Sweden after 2000, finding that their networks were diminished with support mainly coming from family and authorities. Challenges included weakened social networks, integration barriers, and cultural and religious belonging. Mental health problems were common, with family issues more associated with poor mental health than integration difficulties. Refuges' well-being could be strengthened by supporting their social networks and addressing post-migration problems and challenges.
